Position Summary
The Child Care Lead Float Teacher supports classroom operations across all age groups by stepping into lead roles as needed. This position ensures continuity of care, maintains high-quality programming, and upholds licensing, safety, and center policies when permanent staff are absent or additional coverage is required. The Lead Float is a reliable, adaptable educator who builds positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Classroom & Child Care Responsibilities
- Step into lead teacher roles across classrooms as needed (infants, toddlers, preschool, school-age)
- Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and daily schedules
- Maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment
- Supervise children at all times and ensure active, appropriate guidance
- Support children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development
- Assist with diapering, toileting, feeding, and nap routines as required
Program & Compliance
- Follow all mn licensing regulations, center policies, and procedures
- Maintain accurate classroom documentation (attendance, incident reports, daily logs)
- Ensure health, safety, and sanitation standards are consistently met
- Support ratio compliance and smooth classroom transitions
Team Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with classroom teachers and leadership
- Model professional behavior and best practices for staff
- Provide guidance and support to assistant teachers when serving as lead
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff
Family Engagement
- Greet families warmly and communicate daily information as needed
- Answer basic parent questions and direct concerns to leadership when appropriate
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Meets state requirements for a Lead Teacher position
- Experience working in a licensed child care setting
- Strong knowledge of child development and classroom management
- Ability to adapt quickly and work in multiple classrooms
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- CDA, Associate's, or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Active role requiring standing, bending, lifting children, and floor work
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Indoor and outdoor supervision in various weather conditions
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $ $19.00 per hour
