Data Scientist specializing in AI/ML
to our team, where you will play a crucial role in supporting the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of the Chief Information Officer (HUD OCIO). In this capacity, you will analyze, model, and simulate data to support HUD's AI/ML proofs of concept and pilots. You will also develop predictive models and frameworks that enhance system performance and operational efficiency. This is a fully remote position available to candidates residing in the United States. Responsibilities Develop statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and simulations using Python. Analyze HUD datasets, conduct data preprocessing, and ensure data quality for AI workflows. Work collaboratively with HCD/UX and front-end teams to operationalize models effectively. Evaluate model performance, validate results, and iterate for improvements. Document models, decisions, assumptions, and ethical safeguards to support AI governance. Maintain version-controlled code and reproducible workflows for compliance and auditing. Required Experience and Skills 5+ years experience in data science, statistical modeling, or AI/ML projects. Experience developing predictive models and decision-support tools. Familiarity with federal datasets and AI governance requirements is preferred. Strong capabilities in data processing, cleaning, transformation, and engineering. Experience with SQL, NoSQL, Spark, Kafka, and cloud-native pipelines. Previous experience supporting HUD OCIO is a plus. Ability to pass required Federal background screening and obtain necessary government clearance. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship. Technical Skills Proficient in Python (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch). Knowledge of statistical modeling, simulation, and decision theory. Data visualization skills using Matplotlib, Seaborn, or Plotly. Experience with version control (Git/GitHub/GitLab). Familiarity with AI/ML lifecycle and reproducible workflows. Core Competencies Analytical and problem-solving mindset. Collaboration skills with UX, DevOps, and front-end teams. Strong documentation and knowledge transfer abilities for governance compliance. Experience with iterative testing and validation of AI-enabled solutions. Commitment to ethical and privacy-conscious model design. Education and Training Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field (required). Master's degree in Data Science, AI, or related field (preferred). Relevant certifications in Python, machine learning, or data science (preferred).
