Position Overview
We are actively hiring a seasoned
Cisco Network Support Engineer
for a full-time, long-term onsite contract in Newport News, VA. This role requires deep expertise in enterprise-level network design, architecture, and security, with a strong focus on Cisco technologies and large-scale infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing, implementing, and supporting complex network environments across data centers and remote office locations. This position involves advanced routing and switching, enterprise security, firewall management, and high-availability architecture, along with incident response and performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities Provide advanced Cisco network support, including
system-level design , network architecture, and enterprise security. Design and maintain
CAN/MAN/LAN
infrastructure and support data center virtualization initiatives. Configure and troubleshoot the
TCP/IP protocol stack , dynamic routing, switching, and
Layer 3 / Layer 4
access controls. Manage and support
stateful firewalls
and enforce enterprise network boundary security. Ensure high availability, performance, and security across mission-critical network architectures. Participate in on-call support rotations and respond to network incidents and outages. Use network monitoring, diagnostics, and analysis tools to proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks, vulnerabilities, and system failures. Qualifications 10+ years
of hands-on experience with Cisco switching and routing configuration, management, and troubleshooting. 10+ years
designing and supporting scalable enterprise networks using routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers. 10+ years
working with OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, multicast routing, VoIP, and QoS in IPv4/IPv6 environments. Expertise with
Cisco IOS, CatOS, NxOS, Cisco Works, TACACS+, ASA, FWSM, HP OpenView . Strong knowledge of
TCP/IP , Layer 2/Layer 3 protocols, and stateful firewalls. Proven experience with
Palo Alto firewalls
and enterprise IDS/IPS solutions. Proficiency with tools such as
SolarWinds ,
Wireshark , and other network analysis platforms. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical challenges and drive innovative solutions. Experience supporting
VMware virtualized environments . CCNP certification preferred
