About

Summary: The Edge & Network Services (ENS) team at Meta is on the lookout for enthusiastic individuals eager to tackle the unique challenges in our mission to connect the world. This global team presents an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge network infrastructure technologies alongside talented engineers solving complex industry problems. We are seeking a Network Infrastructure Design Engineer with a proven track record in developing and delivering scalable network infrastructure solutions in data centers or globally distributed Points of Presence (POPs). Join us to shape the future of Meta's global network reach! As part of the ENS Foundation Design team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the capacity-driven expansion of Meta's global Edge/Backbone network and compute presence. Collaboration with cross-functional design, planning, and deployment teams is key as you develop space, power, cooling, and connectivity infrastructure design requirements and drive their execution within Meta's global colocation spaces, including POPs, Cable Landing Stations, and Backbone midpoint sites. This role emphasizes execution and delivery, particularly supporting the North America and Latin America regions. Come join us in this exciting endeavor and make a meaningful impact on Meta's future! Key Responsibilities: Design, review, and optimize ICT (Information and Communications Technology) infrastructure—including structured cabling, network hardware, and integrated communications systems—for large-scale network deployments.
Develop and enforce Meta ICT design standards, best practices, and ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC, BICSI).
Manage global space, power, cooling, structured cabling, and other inside plant infrastructure delivery requirements to support Meta edge/backbone network deployments.
Engage in system-level facility sizing for utilities, switchgear, UPS/DC power plants, PDUs, mechanical cooling, and low-voltage power distribution.
Proactively evaluate colocation providers' facilities and recommend corrective actions to adhere to Meta's design requirements.
Collaborate with internal and external design and planning engineers for cage and suite network/compute infrastructure build-outs.
Lead weekly syncs with external vendors, providing technical support and progress reports on build-outs and acceptance.
Manage and track project timelines and risks to deliver projects on time.
Lead site acceptance activities with colocation providers as per Edge network facility acceptance standards.
Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, executing work efficiently at scale through vendors.
Develop optimized layouts of edge/backbone midpoint site floorplans, allocating space for network functions, optical, backbone, IP, compute, etc.
Deliver timely Engineering Design Packages related to site infrastructure scope for sourcing and capacity planning teams.
Work closely with Meta business and technical teams to provide insights on space/power delivery and deployment projects affecting capacity.
Update Meta's internal tools and data records supporting cage and suite build-outs.
Coordinate delivery of Owner Furnished/Contractor Installed equipment from Meta's inventory to colocation facilities.
Align with network planning and investment teams on roadmap and material forecasting for project delivery.
Apply lessons learned from projects to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Travel 20% to 30% as needed based on project demands.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
7+ years of experience designing and constructing large-scale data center or mission-critical infrastructure, including specifying suite-level space, power, cooling, and structured cabling connectivity requirements.
Demonstrated experience in project management, planning, and delivering complex technical projects.
Proficiency in reading and analyzing electrical/mechanical single line diagrams.
Knowledge of various regional data center electrical and cooling configurations, IEC, NEMA standards, and AC/DC power concepts.
Comprehensive understanding of fiber optic components, structured cabling, pathways, and interconnect products and design concepts.
Understanding of engineering principles related to infrastructure architecture, including space alignment, airflow, and cooling.
General knowledge of data center, colocation, and isolated hut environments, along with engineering principles regarding power and infrastructure.
Experience with field-based work in POPs, carrier hotels, data centers, or Central Office environments.
Experience communicating and directing tasks with carriers and colocation vendors.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
Proven ability to collaborate with global teams to drive results, with experience managing multiple tasks and adapting to changing business needs.
Strong problem-solving skills to analyze technical situations and troubleshoot issues independently.
Knowledge of internet networking technologies (TCP/UDP, DHCP, DNS, routing, switching concepts), optical transport technologies (DWDM and optical transceivers), and network redundancy and failover concepts.
Familiarity with Revit/AutoCAD/Bluebeam/BIM360/ACC/Procore.
Preferred Qualifications: Proficient in Revit/AutoCAD/Bluebeam/BIM360/ACC/Procore.
Thorough knowledge of optical theory, transport technologies, and operation of optical transport systems and IP backbone network technologies.
Experience with optical network design, installation, and maintenance for service providers or global enterprises.
Experience with ICT design and construction administration for hyperscale data centers and global backbone network capacity enablement projects.
Certifications in data center design or structured cabling design (e.g., BICSI RCDD).
Professional Engineering (PE) licensure in Electrical or Mechanical disciplines.
Advanced degree in an engineering discipline.
Familiarity with Linux-based systems and experience in scripting and automation (Bash, Python, Perl).
Public Compensation: $135,000/year to $191,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits Industry:
