CLASS TITLE:  Maintenance Worker – City Hall/Police Department

This position requires the ability to perform routine building and grounds maintenance and custodial work, under the direction of the HR/Risk Manager, City Manager, Police Chief or their designee. Work is checked in progress and upon completion.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
    Sweeps and mops floors daily. 
    Buffs, strips, waxes and burnishes floors as needed.
    Vacuums carpets, spot cleans and shampoos as needed.
    Cleans and sanitizes restrooms daily.
    Cleans door glass, windows and blinds as needed.
    Cleans/shampoos floor mats and changes as needed.
    Replaces light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and ballast.
    Tests exit lights and changes light bulbs and batteries. 
    Dusts desks, cabinets, chairs and tables, baseboard, etc.
    Washes walls, doors and window facings.
    Cleans pictures and wall hangings.
    Cleans and sanitizes telephone sets.
    Cleans kitchenette area.
    Defrost refrigerators as needed.
    Reports needed repairs. 
    Makes minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs as needed and advises when a contractor is needed.
    Sweeps sidewalks at front and rear of buildings.
    Keeps entrances and exits clear and dry.
    Weeds plant beds, trims bushes and shrubs, and waters as needed.
    Picks up litter in parking areas and plant islands.
    Changes filters as needed and performs minor maintenance on the HVAC system.
    Clears ice and snow from sidewalks and parking areas.
    Sets up conference rooms for meetings.
    Transports supplies to using departments.
    Move records from offices to storage.
    Paints as needed.
    Practices safety in all activities and reports potential hazards. 
    May be required to work after hours in emergencies.
    May be required to be assigned to other departments when necessary.
    Performs related duties as assigned.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of eighth grade with at least one year experience in building and grounds maintenance, custodial field or related field giving knowledge to function effectively as a maintenance worker.

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to read labels, warnings and follow directions for mixing cleaning chemicals. General knowledge of electricity, carpentry and plumbing helpful.  Ability to organize work; Establish and maintain a working relationship with other employees, supervisors and general public and must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.  Ability to practice and follow all safety precautions; Ability to follow oral and written instructions; and Ability to perform moderately strenuous tasks

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60-75 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

40 hour work week
