Job Description The Role As a
Software Engineering Manager , you will inspire and lead a talented team of engineers tasked with designing, scaling, and maintaining high-performance, reliable software systems. This position integrates leadership with technical expertise, and we expect our engineering managers to stay involved with coding, system architecture, and the key technical choices that define our platforms. You won’t be coding every moment, but your influence will shine through your participation in design and code reviews, providing mentorship, and actively resolving complex challenges. Collaborating closely with your team, you'll deliver exceptional software, drive technical excellence, and emphasize the importance of reliability, scalability, and ongoing improvement. This role is perfect for a leader who sets high technical standards, leads by example, and nurtures a culture of accountability and continuous learning. What You Will Do Lead and mentor a team of engineers, establishing technical direction, setting priorities, and crafting execution plans that align with broader organizational objectives.
Design, build, and maintain production-quality software systems and internal tools that enhance reliability, scalability, and developer efficiency.
Promote engineering best practices related to code quality, testing methodologies, deployment processes, and system design.
Conduct architecture and code reviews to guarantee systems incorporate reliability practices such as fault tolerance and graceful degradation.
Work collaboratively with product and engineering stakeholders to deliver impactful features while balancing reliability, performance, and time constraints.
Encourage a
“you build it, you run it”
culture that embraces full service ownership.
Be actively involved in on-call rotations as needed, helping to identify and resolve intricate production issues.
Lead post-incident reviews to transform lessons learned into actionable engineering improvements.
Establish and monitor reliability metrics such as SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs.
Champion performance enhancements and architectural optimizations to decrease operational burdens.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
8+ years of experience in software engineering roles managing production systems.
Proven ability to guide engineers through mentorship, code assessments, and critical architectural choices.
Expertise in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java).
Strong grasp of distributed systems, operating systems, networking, databases, and storage solutions.
In-depth knowledge of software execution on underlying infrastructure.
Experience troubleshooting and enhancing complex production systems.
Familiarity with automating workflows, CI/CD processes, or developer tools.
Excellent communication skills for interactions with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with cloud service providers (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies like Kubernetes.
Experience designing or managing large-scale distributed systems.
Previous experience working with Java in a production setting.
