Are you an IT professional with experience in mainframe operations and a passion for supporting mission-critical systems? Do you thrive in structured environments where accuracy, collaboration, and accountability matter? The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a skilled IT Associate to support our Mission Critical Production Batch operations.

Under the general supervision of the Information Technology Supervisor I, the IT Associate is responsible for scheduling, executing, monitoring, and ensuring the successful completion of DMV's Mission Critical Production Batch processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operating within a mainframe legacy environment, utilizing tools such as TSO, ISPF, JCL, ESP (job scheduling software), and ENDEVOR (software migration tool)
  • Monitoring batch processing and resolving issues to ensure uninterrupted business operations
  • Collaborating and communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, via phone, email, the DMV Ticket Tracking System, and the California Department of Technology Ticket Tracking System
  • Working with all levels of staff, including management, technical and business teams, vendors, and internal/external customers
  • Analyzing, developing, and maintaining technical documentation for DMV's Production Data Guidance (PDG), including processes, procedures, guidelines, and standards
  • Ensuring compliance with DMV guidelines and operational controls
  • Serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and providing technical recommendations for: Legislatively Mandated Projects, Enterprise Software Upgrades, On-Demand Ad Hoc Projects, Disaster Recovery and Operations Recovery exercises
  • Ensuring accountable items, including forms, titles and/or certificates (pinks), and registration cards, are properly accounted for and balanced during processing

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to demonstrated experience and ability, competitive candidates will possess:

  • Proficiency in the IBM z/OS Mainframe environment
  • Strong skills in TSO/ISPF, z/OS JCL, ESP, and ENDEVOR
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and FileMaker Pro
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A commitment to integrity, sound judgment, quality, and accountability
  • Ability to adapt, innovate, and think strategically
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience following established guidelines and procedures in a regulated environment
