Job Description: The Jolly Roger Host

This job description outlines the essential duties, responsibilities, qualifications, and working conditions for the position of The Jolly Roger Host at The Jolly Roger, part of The Silver Lake Hotel at Ocracoke. Position Summary

The Jolly Roger Host is responsible for greeting, seating, and serving guests in a welcoming and professional manner while providing exceptional service at The Jolly Roger. This role combines guest relations, bartending, and serving duties to ensure every patron enjoys a quality dining and beverage experience. The position requires a friendly, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet, seat, and serve guests promptly and courteously
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately and enter them into the POS system
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to company standards
  • Answer guest questions regarding menu selections, ingredients, and specials
  • Communicate dietary needs, allergies, and special requests to the kitchen
  • Check in with guests to ensure satisfaction with food and beverages
  • Maintain cleanliness of tables, bar areas, and service stations throughout the shift
  • Complete opening and closing duties, including restocking items and organizing supplies
  • Present accurate guest checks, process payments, and maintain cash handling accuracy
  • Follow all company, health, and safety policies and procedures
  • Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions immediately to management
  • Maintain proper uniform and professional appearance at all times
  • Support teammates to achieve service goals and uphold a positive work environment
  • Lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and perform physical duties safely
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Experience:

  • Prior restaurant, bar, or hospitality service experience preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Responsible Vendor or alcohol service certification (preferred)

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service abilities
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to multitask efficiently in a high-volume setting
  • Proficiency in POS and cash handling systems
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, and carry items for extended periods
  • Must pass required drug screening, background check, and E-Verify

Compensation and Benefits

Pay:

  • From $11.00 per hour plus tips
