About This Role:
Under immediate supervision, the Associate Mechanical Engineer performs mechanical design and development of landscape irrigation and/or lighting products. Design efforts may be directed toward new product development, sustaining existing products, or research efforts. Applies knowledge of engineering principles and uses computer aided design and analysis tools. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

Essential Job Functions/Tasks:
- Assists in design engineering support for existing products or product development or research projects. Researches, designs, analyzes, and tests products to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
- Performs analysis, modeling, prototype, and design of injection molded plastic or die-cast components and enclosures. Uses rapid prototyping methods as appropriate. Designs for manufacturability incorporating tolerance analysis. Conducts part design reviews.
- Assists in developing solutions to product problems that arise and aids in the implementation of the solution. Diagnoses causes and contributes design ideas to resolve product issues. Designs tests or test fixtures required to duplicate field failures or to qualify product design changes. Communicates ideas and opinions to team members and communicates design changes to affected departments.
- Provides and maintains accurate documentation of assigned products, including research projects. Creates 3D models, drawings, and parts lists to document designs. Assists in development of test and inspection methods. Coordinates collection of test and measurement data. Analyses data and summarizes for presentation to project team members.
- Responds to product change requests, generates solutions, and implements through Engineering Change Orders (ECOs). Ensures that changes are accurate, complete and do not adversely affect product performance and manufacturability through Design Verification. Ensures conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
- Coordinates work with various departments to achieve common goals. Maintains on-going discussions with various departments on feasibility of a specific design. Learns department functions and processes to accomplish assigned projects and to implement engineering changes.
- May serve as project team engineer of a New Product Development team, assisting in development of a plan that includes project schedule, specifications, and budget. Responsible for seeing this plan through to completion. Provides and maintains project documentation as required by the Hunter New Product Development process.
- Keeps abreast of current technology and competitive developments. Travels to test sites, customers, suppliers, and trade shows as required.
Education/Training Required and Preferred:
- BS in an engineering discipline, BS in mechanical engineering or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
Experience Required and Preferred:
- No experience required with BS in engineering; minimum of 4 years without a BS degree.
What You Bring:
- Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within mechanical engineering field. Must have ability to read and understand drawings, schematics, and other informational materials.
- Must possess good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Must be proficient in use of computer and engineering design software.
- Must have strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
- Requires good interpersonal skills to interact and communicate with department and company employees, customers, suppliers, etc.
- Must be able to travel to test sites, customer locations, suppliers, and trade shows.
- Requires ability to work on short-term projects.
- Requires ability to self-initiate activities.
- Familiarity with CAD systems and 3-D modeling software strongly preferred.

The salary for this opportunity ranges from $63,000 to $70,000
The Company complies with all federal/local/state regulations in regard to pay. The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Compensation offered to the successful candidate will be determined by qualifications, prior experience, other job-related factors, and geographic location.
