About
Important Requirement:
All new hires must complete 7 days of orientation (8:30 AM – 4:00 PM) prior to starting at a residential or day program site.
Position: Direct Support Professional (Full-Time – 37 Hours per Week)
Location: Ladson (Temple 2)
Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour
Overtime: Available
Experience: No experience required – Paid training provided
Schedule:
Monday-Friday 2:00pm-7:00am & Sunday 8:00am – 8:00pm
Position Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides support, supervision, and training to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a Community Training Home (CTH). The DSP helps individuals achieve independence, safety, and personal development in accordance with agency values and procedures.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties -
Professionalism & Conduct
- Maintain professional behavior and follow agency mission, policies, and procedures
- Treat individuals and coworkers with dignity and respect at all times
- Support Individuals to Achieve Personal Outcomes and a High Quality of Life
- Promote an environment that is free from abuse and neglect, respecting the rights and dignity of individuals and coworkers
- Remain on duty until properly relieved
Health & Safety Support
- Assist individuals in maintaining safe and healthy lifestyles
- Monitor and report changes in individuals' health and daily routines
- Support prescribed diets, adaptive equipment use, and safety drills
- Follow proper lifting and mobility assistance techniques
Daily Living & Skill Development
- Provide hands-on support with hygiene, grooming, and daily living tasks
- Prepare meals and snacks based on dietary needs
- Encourage participation in chores, activities, and life skills training
- Implement and document Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and behavior programs
Documentation & Communication
- Complete accurate documentation in Therap and other required forms (e.g., T-Logs, GERs, ISP data)
- Communicate changes or incidents to supervisors and nursing staff
- Maintain confidentiality and protect agency-issued credentials
Transportation & Community Engagement
- Safely transport individuals to activities, appointments, and outings
- Operate agency vehicles, wheelchair lifts, and restraints as trained
- Follow agency transportation and safety protocols
Medication & Financial Assistance
- Administer medications and treatments per agency policy
- Complete Medication Administration Records (MARs)
- Support individuals with financial transactions, receipts, and
