REPORTS TO: Facilities Director

JOB SUMMARY

The EVS Supervisor supervises the Environmental Services staff to ensure the cleaning and upkeep of the hospital & LTCC (Long Term Care Center), facilities interior and furnishings. This will be done in a clean, aseptic and orderly fashion for the comfort and health of the residents, ensuring a pleasant environment for visitors and staff. The Supervisor will make suggestions on area assignment changes and schedule changes, as needed. The Supervisor assists in the training of new staff as well as the in-servicing of the current staff. They must be able to work all areas of housekeeping responsibility as well as observe and make needed corrections in the everyday cleaning assignments. They will schedule and carry out EVS projects, and complete evaluations of EVS staff under their direct supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervise and assist the cleaning of all areas of housekeeping responsibility in the hospital including LTCC according to the policies and procedures set forth by the Environmental Services Department and following State and Federal standards. This cleaning includes, but is not limited to the following:
  • All residents' rooms and bathrooms using the 7-step method.
  • Straightening the residents' rooms; placing call bells within reach of resident; removing soiled linens from rooms.
  • Pack and have ready for removal the possessions of a resident who has passed away. Thoroughly clean room and make the bed for a new admission as requested.
  • All guest lobbies and restrooms.
  • All nurses' stations, utilities, halls carpet, conference rooms, bathing areas, hall restrooms, common areas and offices.
  • All ancillary departments, lounges and dining rooms in the LTCC building.
  • LTCC dining rooms and trash removal.
  • All other assigned patient care areas, furnishings and bathrooms.
  • Conduct and complete periodic cleaning:
  • Carpet and hall floor care.
  • Wall and window washing.
  • Hard floor care.
  • Keep periodic records of work completed.
  • Communication
  • Communicate with patients regarding patients' rights.
  • Patient identification.
  • Special requests.
  • Follow standard precautions as set forth by OSHA and hospital regulations.
  • Wearing gloves and frequent hand washing.
  • Use of other personal protections equipment.
  • Understanding & following isolation procedures.
  • Needs to familiarize self with the use & protection of equipment for blood borne pathogens as states in the OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens Standard.
  • Knowledge of chemicals, names & use/dilutions.
  • Identify chemicals by name.
  • Proper use of chemicals.
  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets and where they are located.
  • How to read & understand.
  • Keep department Supervisor informed of problems and of supplies needed.
  • Train staff to use EVS equipment in a safe and correct manner.
  • Communicate to Supervisor about any issues with staff. Assist and support Supervisor to correct issues with staff.
  • Make simple reports as required or requested.
  • Trains and inspects the performance of assigned housekeeping staff to ensure all procedures are completed to unit's standards.
  • Help with the following issues if they arise: Patient related issues, Inter/Intra departmental issues, troubleshooting (equipment), procedure protocols, knowledge of policies and procedures and scheduling.
  • Provide training in the areas of: Use of chemicals, cleaning procedures in various departments, inspections as needed and show staff where improvement is needed.
  • Document late or absent employees.
  • Manage payroll timesheets of your assigned EVS staff in the Time & Attendance system. Approve staff's timesheets by the deadlines set by payroll. Ensure coding of time is appropriate, correct and necessary for each location.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to read, understand and follow simple directions. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

EXPERIENCE

At least one year or more of housekeeping experience in a healthcare environment preferred. Knowledge of common cleaning procedures, hospital policies, the needs of the numerous departments facility wide and the hospital as a whole. Ability to work with, lead, and correct fellow staff members as needed. Good communication skills and the ability to converse with the department head as the situation dictates. Must be able to interact with all departments within the facility.

  • Must possess a high degree of confidentiality of all matters with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information and uphold all residents' rights while maintaining dignity and privacy for each individual resident.
  • Must have ability to make light conversation while working around the residents. Must have the ability to communicate with staff and public in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner.
  • Interest in the welfare of the patients and residents.
  • Must have the ability to discipline staff as needed.
  • Must be able to work around unpleasant odors and illnesses.
  • Must have knowledge or ability to acquire the knowledge of all equipment used in the department, and the ability to train others.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task.
  • Must have well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Must have ability to learn and use Microsoft Office Suite products including Word and Outlook.
  • Must have ability to learn new computer software applications.
  • Detail oriented.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Current clean driver's license.
