JDI Industrial Services is now seeking an experienced and proactive Field Safety Specialist to provide on-site environmental, health, and safety support for industrial construction, maintenance, and contracting projects. The successful candidate will serve as the primary EHS representative on assigned project sites, ensuring subcontractor compliance with company safety standards, federal/state/local regulations, and client-specific requirements.
This is a hands-on, boots-on-the-ground role requiring strong field presence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence subcontractor leadership and craft workforce in high-hazard industrial environments.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary EHS point of contact for superintendents on assigned projects.
- Conduct daily field safety observations, hazard recognition, and immediate hazard correction.
- Perform work site audits, orientation delivery, and permit-to-work auditing.
- Lead and/or facilitate daily/toolbox talks, pre-job safety meetings (JSA/JHA review), and safety stand-downs.
- Monitor high-risk activities including but not limited to confined space entry, hot work, energized work, fall protection, excavation/trenching, lifting & rigging, line breaking, fall protection removal, and hazardous material handling.
- Conduct and document regular site safety inspections, audits, and subcontractor performance evaluations.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and first aids – including root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
- Maintain accurate daily EHS documentation (daily reports, inspection records, training logs, incident reports.)
- Ensure proper use and availability of PPE, emergency response equipment, and first aid supplies at each site.
- Interface directly with client EHS representatives, site operations, and subcontractor supervision.
- Coach and mentor subcontractor supervision and workforce in safe work practices.
- Stay current with changing OSHA, EPA, DOT, MSHA, and state regulations
Skills and Qualifications
- 3 – 5+ years of progressive EHS field experience in heavy industrial, manufacturing, or construction environments.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA 1910 & 1926 standards.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with contractors in field environments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills – ability to deliver safety messages to diverse audiences
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to work extended shifts, nights, weekends, and be away from home for multiple weeks (when project requires)
