Position Summary
The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily transportation activities and supporting drivers to ensure safe, timely, and efficient deliveries. This role focuses on front-line supervision, dispatch support, and issue resolution, while enforcing established safety and compliance standards. The Transportation Supervisor works closely with the Transportation Manager and Compliance Manager but does not own DOT/FMCSA programs or audits.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Transportation Operations
- Support daily route execution & dispatch coordination.
- Manage preventive maintenance & keep records
- Monitor route progress and address delays, breakdowns, or service issues
- Ensure adequate driver coverage and communicate staffing gaps to management
- Coordinate with warehouse and dispatch teams to ensure on-time departures
- Assist with yard checks, trailer positioning, and equipment readiness
- Manage time keeping on ADP
Driver Supervision & Support
- Serve as the first point of contact for drivers during shifts
- Reinforce attendance, punctuality, and route expectations
- Conduct ride-alongs, observations, and coaching as assigned
- Assist with onboarding, training, and shadowing of new drivers
- Escalate performance or behavioral issues to the Transportation Manager
Safety & Compliance Support
Assist compliance manager to enforce DOT/FMCSA requirements in daily operations
Monitor pre-trip/post-trip inspections and ensure defects are reported
- Participate in accident response and investigations as directed
Communication & Reporting
- Maintain accurate shift logs, incident reports, and route notes
- Communicate real-time issues to the Transportation Manager
- Support corrective action documentation as requested
- Promote consistent communication between drivers, dispatch, and warehouse teams
Qualifications
Required
- 2–4 years of transportation, logistics, or fleet supervision experience
- Strong working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and Hours of Service
- Experience supervising or leading drivers in a CDL environment
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including early mornings or weekends
Preferred
- Valid CDL (Class A or B) or prior CDL driving experience
- Experience in produce, food distribution, or time-sensitive delivery environments
- Familiarity with ELD and fleet systems (e.g., Samsara)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Physical & Work Environment
- Combination of office, warehouse, and yard environment
- Frequent interaction with drivers and equipment
- Ability to respond to operational issues outside standard business hours
