About

The Activities Assistant supports the daily delivery of person‑centered activities and programs within an Adult Day Program. This role helps create meaningful, engaging experiences that promote independence, community involvement, and overall well‑being for participants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing and leading individual‑centered activities, volunteer programs, and community‑based outings.
  • Support the preparation of monthly activity calendars and newsletters.
  • Coordinate and lead designated field trips and special events, including holiday celebrations, parties, and Special Olympics activities.
  • Encourage participant engagement and community participation.
  • Provide transportation assistance to and from activities as needed.
  • Participate in planning meetings and contribute ideas for programming.
  • Support implementation of treatment‑related goals and promote participant independence.
  • Maintain inventory of activity supplies, games, and craft materials.
  • Recommend techniques, materials, and environmental adjustments to enhance functional and cognitive abilities.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations and participate in safety drills.
  • Ensure scheduled activities are carried out effectively.
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum of two years of related experience.
  • Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or autism preferred.
Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and speak English.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals one-on-one and in group settings.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team environment and support the growth and development of participants.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills for handling non‑routine situations.
  • Observant, intuitive, and able to identify participant needs and barriers.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to follow assigned tasks and directions.
  • Ability to encourage independence and support goal achievement for program participants.
Technical & Operational Requirements
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, including telephone, voicemail, copier, fax machine, computer, and calculator.
  • Ability to assist with transportation and operate vehicles safely.
  • Valid driver's license meeting state laws, insurance requirements, and organizational policies.
