About
Company Description
nuBorn Medical is developing an innovative smart bottle system designed to provide real-time feeding insights for clinicians and parents. Our goal is to support optimal care and nutrition for newborns, from the NICU to the comfort of their homes. Through cutting-edge technology, we aim to empower caregivers with accurate and actionable data to enhance feeding experiences for infants. By addressing critical challenges in newborn care, we are committed to making a positive impact on families and healthcare providers.
Role Description
We are seeking an experienced Contract Full Stack Developer to design and build a secure, HIPAA-compliant mobile and cloud application. The initial focus will be an iOS application that communicates with a Bluetooth-enabled IoT medical device, securely harvesting device data and transmitting it to an AWS-based API and storage stack for processing and persistence.
The IoT device itself is not network-enabled and will rely entirely on the mobile application as a secure data relay. The architecture is expected to evolve over time toward a full JavaScript-based middleware application layer supporting advanced business logic, analytics, and UI-driven calculations.
Key Responsibilities
AWS Backend Infrastructure and iOS Mobile Application Development
Design and build an iOS application to:
* Communicate with Bluetooth (BLE) enabled IoT devices
* Securely collect and validate device data
* Transmit data to AWS via secured API endpoints
Ensure mobile application and backend infrastructure adheres to HIPAA compliance standards, including:
* Secure data transmission
* Encryption at rest and in transit
* Secure device handling and authentication
* Design the mobile architecture to be future-compatible with Android (e.g., shared logic, cross-platform considerations)
* Backend & Cloud Development
Develop and maintain AWS-based API infrastructure, initially leveraging:
* AWS Lambda for API routes
* API Gateway for secure access
* SQL database (e.g., RDS or Aurora) for structured data
* Amazon S3 for object and raw data storage
* Implement secure read/write operations from mobile clients to cloud services
* Ensure AWS infrastructure follows HIPAA-aligned security best practices
Architecture & Evolution
Contribute to the design of a future full-stack JavaScript middleware layer that will:
Perform calculations, transformations, and business logic
Support application-level functions consumed by the mobile app
Collaborate on architectural decisions that support scalability, compliance, and long-term maintainability
Required Qualifications
* U.S. Citizen (required due to data sensitivity and compliance requirements)
* This will be a W2 role, no 1099, no agencies or C2C
* Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer with mobile and cloud components
* Strong experience developing iOS applications (Swift preferred)
* Hands-on experience with Bluetooth / BLE communication in mobile apps
Solid knowledge of AWS infrastructure, including:
* AWS Lambda
* API Gateway
* SQL databases (RDS/Aurora)
* Amazon S3
* Experience building secure, HIPAA-compliant applications
* Understanding of secure API design, authentication, and encryption practices
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
* Android development experience or cross-platform frameworks (e.g., React Native, Flutter)
* JavaScript / TypeScript experience for future middleware layer development
* Experience with IoT data ingestion workflows
* Familiarity with healthcare or regulated environments
* Experience designing scalable, event-driven architectures on AWS
Deliverables & Success Criteria
* Secure, production-ready iOS application communicating with a Bluetooth IoT device
* HIPAA-compliant data flow from device → mobile app → AWS
* Clean, well-documented cloud APIs and data storage patterns
* Architecture ready for future Android support and middleware expansion
