About the position
Provides support services for the clinic, occasionally requiring the use of independent judgment. Performs varied outpatient clinical duties. Works closely with the psychiatric provider, interacts directly with patients, records vital signs, provides psychiatric injections, and manages large volumes of clinical information
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
Utilizes clinical skills to complete a variety of tasks, such as, but not limited to:
- Assisting in answering phone calls and appointment scheduling
- Taking medical histories and recording vital signs.
- Assisting with collection of clinical symptoms screens.
- Appropriately triaging reported symptoms.
- Collecting urine-tox screens
- Using knowledge of infection control and hygiene to maintain patient/staff safety as well as ensure a tidy environment in assigned workspaces such as exam rooms and vitals stations.
- Assisting with management of prescriptions, labs, diagnostic tests, referrals, prior authorizations, and appropriately triaging results.
- Tracks patient cancellations and no-shows and works with providers to ensure appropriate follow-up.
- May engage in case-management follow-ups for the prescribers as needed, e.g. letter requests and partial completion of forms requiring signature.
- Transmits confidential/ sensitive information, such as patient matters, to authorized persons.
- Effectively utilizes the electronic medical system and other essential tools used by the clinics, e.g. DocuSign, Zoom, Adobe, Microsoft Office products, and Outlook.
- Maintains a high attention to detail in order to ensure accurate, timely, and professional documentation.
- Monitors online clinical resources such as CRISP and communicates essential patient information to the treatment team.
- Actively seeks to provide quality services that meet the needs of patients and clients as well as other customers-families, payers, referrers, and staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Work requires HS diploma/GED
- Must have some practicum or work experience in a health office months of relevant medical office experience is preferred.
- Must have AHA approved Basic Life Support/CPR certification for healthcare workers at time of hire and throughout employment.
Required experience includes:
- Skills in clinical data collection/screening with prospective patients;
- Ability to conduct urine tox-screens as needed;
- Ability to appropriately triage abnormal lab results;
- Ability to administer patient symptom screens and appropriately triage results;
- Assistance with prescriptions, prior authorizations, lab orders, and diagnostic requisitions;
- Accuracy in taking and recording vital signs;
- Strong organization skills to maintaining patient schedules, incoming and outgoing flow of high volume clinical documents, and patient requests for provider documentation;
- Access and documentation in an EMR;
- Familiarity with use of electronic inbox and electronic prescribing;
- Proficiency in the use of computers with Windows and Microsoft Office software and other automated office equipment.
- Familiarity with accessing online clinical resources such as the Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP)
