Duties
- Safely operate school buses and vehicles on designated routes, ensuring timely pick-up and drop-off of students.
- Follow all traffic laws, safety protocols, and company policies to maintain a secure environment for passengers.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and colleagues to provide excellent customer service.
- Assist children with boarding and exiting the bus, including those with special needs or requiring childcare support.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure mechanical safety and report any issues promptly.
- Manage behavior on the bus through positive reinforcement and behavior management techniques to promote a respectful environment.
- Maintain accurate records of routes, student counts, incidents, and vehicle maintenance logs as required.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and commercial driver's license (CDL).
- Experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or similar transportation roles; prior school bus or paratransit experience is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus to assist diverse communities.
- Ability to work with children and demonstrate patience, empathy, and excellent childcare skills.
- Mechanical knowledge to perform basic vehicle inspections and troubleshoot minor issues.
- Knowledge of behavior management strategies to handle student conduct effectively.
- Experience in customer service or caregiving roles such as senior care or teaching enhances your ability to connect with passengers.
