    PURPOSE: To provide targeted reading instruction and intervention to students who need additional support in literacy development. The Reading Specialist collaborates with classroom teachers and staff to implement evidence-based strategies that improve reading achievement and foster a love of reading.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor's degree in Education required; Master's degree in Reading or Literacy preferred.
    • Valid state teaching certification with Reading Specialist endorsement.
    • Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience preferred.

    GENERAL

    • Expertise in reading instruction, assessment, and intervention strategies.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to analyze data and adjust instruction to meet student needs.

    REPORTABILITY: Reports to: Building Principal

    EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy and the Pennsylvania Educator Effectiveness System (including observation, student growth measures, and professional responsibilities).

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assess students' reading levels using formal and informal assessments.
    • Develop and implement individualized and small-group reading interventions.
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support literacy instruction across the curriculum.
    • Monitor and document student progress; communicate results to parents and staff.
    • Provide professional development and resources to teachers on effective reading strategies.
    • Stay current with research and best practices in literacy education.
    • Ensure compliance with district policies and state regulations.

    • Ability to work in a variety of instructional settings (classroom, small group, one-on-one).
    • Frequent standing, walking, and interaction with students and staff.
