UFG's internship program is a nine-week opportunity to network with insurance industry professionals and build your knowledge and experience in a rotational internship.
You will have the opportunity to work alongside UFG's largest departments to learn the basics of insurance. The schedule for this position is 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Monday through Friday during the summer months of 2026. We have hybrid and in-office options available. We look forward to hearing from you
Here's what to expect
- Develop an understanding of the basic functions in a property and casualty insurance company.
- Assist claims professionals in claims handling process and various projects.
- Responsible for the monthly journal entries, balancing and financial statement preparation.
- Prepare support schedules for various basis of accounting, including statutory, GAAP and SEC reporting
- Accumulate and analyze information from internal systems to prepare internal reports for management
- Provide advice and insight under moderate supervision that helps UFG achieve enterprise goals
- Identify audit issues, including root cause(s), that are discovered during audit testing
- Perform IT and/or Financial Statement (Sarbanes-Oxley) testing in accordance with department standards and established audit program(s)
- Assist with building out reporting tools for Finance leadership to use to drive strategic decision making
- Researching and analyzing variances to historical results and to the annual budget
- Forecasting current year expenses and layering in management actions into a live forecast
- Assist in developing policies and procedures for the organization to better manage spend.
- Collaborate with the intern group to solve business problems and present solutions to executive leadership.
- Gain exposure to UFG's leadership team through various networking events, including participation in the Build Your Network Program
- Participate in a variety of development and social activities with interns from other business units.
Here's What It Takes
- Required: Current freshman, sophomore, or rising junior student pursuing a bachelor's degree in insurance, risk management, business, finance, accounting or related field
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Participation in Insurance or Safety related groups, associations or organizations preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and observation skills
- Ability to multi-task and ask questions
