This is an in-office position for hire at Inspired Flight's HQ in San Luis Obispo, CA.
Job Description
Inspired Flight is seeking a talented and experienced Technical Project Manager to join our Technology Team. A Technical Project Manager is a specialized role responsible for the project management and delivery of multiple complex drone projects.
This position is at the core of the engineering department at Inspired Flight and will be part of a rapidly growing company in the growing UAV industry. Lots of upward mobility available for this role!
Typical Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the lead technical authority on development projects, managing the complete lifecycle from requirements gathering through production.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans covering schedules, budgets, resource allocation, and risk assessments to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Coordinate closely with software, electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to align on deliverables and technical objectives.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison for customers and key stakeholders, delivering updates, addressing technical inquiries, and ensuring alignment with expectations.
  • Proactively manage technical roadblocks, providing direction, support, and escalation paths as needed.
  • Promote high engineering standards and ensure thorough documentation across all phases and functions.
  • Collaboration with the Hardware, Software, and Solutions Engineering team leads to drive project success and technical excellence.

You'll excel in this role if you are skilled in:
  • Passion for ensuring project delivery and systematic archiving of results.
  • Strong engineering background with the ability to assess risks and make informed, technical decisions.
  • Proficiency with tools like Microsoft Project, ClickUp, or similar platforms for tracking and managing projects.
  • Familiarity with aerospace documentation and compliance requirements such as MIL-STDs, ISO 9000, and ASME standards.
  • Proven success in managing projects within the aerospace sector, demonstrating both strategic vision and tactical execution.
  • Exceptional project management capabilities, with strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills for leading cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to articulate complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences, including both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized, with a proactive mindset toward problem-solving and risk management.

Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent discipline is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 5-7+ Years experience in a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering or project management roles, with at least 3 years as a Project Engineer.
  • Experience preferably in the following industries: UAS, aviation, aerospace, defense sector
