About

Madison Animal Hospital, a busy small animal practice in Madison Maine, is hiring for a full time veterinary technician. Our practice offers a friendly work environment with close-knit, compassionate personnel committed to providing high quality medicine for our patients. The ideal candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, an ability to multitask, perform efficiently during stressful situations, and be self motivated. Candidates must have respect and compassion for people and animals. Veterinary technology license is preferred but not required, however, previous experience is a must. Communication, phone skills, and computer skills are required.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Provides compassionate care to patients and clients.
  • Keeps accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy, including in-depth knowledge of medical terminology and record keeping.
  • Prepares and maintains the exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Stock clinic treatment area and exam rooms, and inform inventory manager when supplies need to be ordered
  • Performs physical assessments and records observations, including triaging and problem solving to achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • Safe, low stress and compassionate handling and restraint.
  • Prepares estimates for procedures and discusses financial commitments with clients.
  • Venipuncture and IV catheter placement
  • Pharmacy skills, including protocols for filling in-house.
  • Radiography and digital imaging
  • Monitors vitals
  • Sample collection and processing for in-house and reference labs
  • Builds initial rapport and long-term relationships with both pets and clients, successfully communicates plans and estimates to owners.
  • Assists the Veterinarian in medical, surgical and dental procedures; prepares patients for surgery; administers anesthesia; monitors patients during surgery and recovery; administers fluids.
  • Communicates within the team, proactively advocating for their patient's needs.
  • Operates practice management software and related medical monitoring equipment.
