About

Overview
We are seeking a Working Superintendent to serve as the on-site leader for our construction projects. This is a hands-on field leadership role for a highly skilled professional who can both perform trade work and lead crews to execute projects safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

This position is not for a desk-based manager. The Working Superintendent is responsible for setting the pace on the jobsite, solving problems in real time, and leading by example in the field. You will be accountable for daily production, quality control, and keeping projects moving forward according to schedule.

You will work closely with Project Management and Operations leadership while owning day-to-day field execution — including labor coordination, installation quality, safety, material usage, and jobsite organization.

This role is ideal for a top-tier tradesperson who is ready to step into leadership while still staying active in the work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on trade work daily, including installation, repairs, and build-out activities alongside the crew
  • Lead by example on the jobsite by setting the pace, quality standard, and work ethic
  • Direct, train, and support field crews to ensure work is performed correctly, safely, and efficiently
  • Troubleshoot and resolve field issues in real time (layout conflicts, missing materials, installation problems, scope questions)
  • Ensure all work meets company standards, plans, and applicable codes
  • Coordinate with Project Management to keep projects on schedule and within scope
  • Perform on-site inspections of completed work and correct deficiencies immediately
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite
  • Enforce safety practices and correct unsafe behavior on the spot
  • Communicate daily progress, issues, and manpower needs to leadership
  • Verify that materials are used correctly and waste is minimized
  • Support and mentor junior crew members and help raise the skill level of the team

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in construction or a skilled trade such as electrical, low voltage, fire, carpentry, or multi-trade
  • Proven experience leading crews in the field, not just supervising from an office
  • Ability to personally perform high-quality trade work while directing others
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering jobs on time, on budget, and built right the first time
  • Complete ability to read blueprints.
  • Deep understanding of jobsite sequencing, materials, installation methods, and code compliance
  • Ability to identify problems early and resolve them before they cause delays or rework
  • Strong leadership presence that earns respect and accountability from crews
  • Comfortable holding people accountable and maintaining high performance standards
  • High level of personal organization, reliability, and discipline
  • Clear and professional communication with project managers, operations leadership, crews, and clients
  • Physically capable of performing active field work in construction environments
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between job sites
  • Experience running technically complex or multi-trade projects is required
  • Experience training and mentoring junior crew members is required
  • OSHA or other safety certifications are required

Why Join Austen

This position offers an opportunity for a dedicated professional to lead complex projects while utilizing their expertise in construction management. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to safety, quality, and efficient project delivery.

At Austen, we invest in people who execute at a high level. If you are the kind of professional who leads from the front, holds yourself and others to high standards, and takes pride in doing the work right the first time, you will have the opportunity to grow into senior leadership as the company continues to expand.

We offer competitive pay, performance-based growth, and a clear path to advancement for those who consistently deliver results in the field.
