GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. Currently, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research), one of the world's largest research projects, will be built in international cooperation. The NUSTAR (NUclear STructure, Astrophysics and Reactions) collaboration comprises more than 700 engaged scientists from over 170 participating institutions worldwide. NUSTAR experiments are ongoing in the FAIR Phase-0 research program and will be the first to be carried out at the new Superconducting-FRagment Separator (Super-FRS) facility at FAIR in the coming years.
The NUSTAR Experiment Area is looking to hire a motivated
Data Acquisition Specialist (all genders)

as soon as possible to support the NUSTAR experimental program at GSI/FAIR.
- Development and implementation (e.g. procurement, installation and commissioning) of the NUSTAR Data Acquisition (DAQ) and slow control systems at GSI/FAIR
- Maintenance and operation of general NUSTAR DAQ hardware and software, and ensuring availability of necessary documentation
- Providing support and advice to internal and external NUSTAR groups regarding the integration of detector systems into the NUSTAR DAQ
- Representation of the NUSTAR sub-project within GSI/FAIR on matters relating to DAQ and/or slow control systems.
- A PhD in physics, electronics, information technology or a related discipline
- Several years of professional work experience in nuclear physics DAQ development and/or implementation, preferably in comparable scientific environments
- Outstanding organisational and communication skills
- Fluent in written and spoken English (German language skills desirable)
- Keen interest to work within a large collaboration in a world-leading scientific environment.

The salary is based on the German civil service employees (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst - TVöD (Bund)).
