Who are we looking for?
GHD has an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Lead for our I&C/Automation Group.
GHD is a global professional services leader dedicated to solving the world's most significant challenges in water, energy, and urbanization. We are seeking a highly motivated Business Development Lead to drive the growth of our business. This role will focus on Industrial Automation Hardware, Software, Communications, and Cybersecurity, enabling cutting-edge control systems for industrial and municipal clients. This position can be based in any of our offices in California or in Phoenix AZ.
As the Business Development Lead you will be responsible for developing and executing a go-to-market strategy for automation solutions, ensuring pipeline and revenue growth. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of modern industrial automation technologies and experience engaging with clients to develop state-of-the-art solutions that integrate PLC, SCADA, IoT, Edge Computing, Cybersecurity, and IT/OT convergence.
Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Strategic Growth & Market Penetration: Develop a targeted strategy to expand the regions presence in industrial automation markets, leveraging GHD's technical capabilities.
- Client Engagement & Account Management: Establish and maintain relationships with key industrial and municipal clients, ensuring alignment of automation solutions with client needs.
- Cybersecurity & Compliance: Work with internal teams to position GHD's automation solutions as secure, scalable, and compliant with ISA/IEC 62443, NIST, and industry-specific cybersecurity standards.
- Technology & Solution Advocacy: Lead discussions with clients to design and implement advanced automation systems, including IIoT platforms, real-time data acquisition, and edge computing solutions
- Sales Enablement & Technical Expertise: Support internal sales teams with technical presentations, proposal development, and Proof of Concept (PoC) deployments for automation solutions.
- Competitive Analysis: Assess market trends, analyze competitor offerings, and ensure that GHD's automation solutions are differentiated and competitive.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with marketing, business development, and technical teams to align sales strategy with emerging automation technologies.
- Trade Shows & Industry Presence: Represent GHD's Advanced Automation Group at industry conferences, client meetings, and networking events.
What you will bring to the Team
- 15+ years of experience in I&C design and automation systems, preferably in municipal water, energy, oil & gas, or manufacturing industries.
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or relevant specialty
- Familiarity with high-availability automation solutions, predictive maintenance, and AI-driven industrial analytics.
- Experience leading and managing automation sales teams and channel partners.
- Ability to develop and present compelling business cases for automation investments.
- Experience in IIoT architectures, cloud computing (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Expertise in PLC, DCS, SCADA, Edge Computing, and IT/OT cybersecurity integration.
- Strong understanding of modern automation platforms, including Rockwell, Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider, Emerson, and Yokogawa.
- Experience with real-time industrial communications (Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, and wireless solutions).
- Proven ability to develop and execute sales strategies for automation and cybersecurity solutions.
- Strong technical and commercial acumen, with the ability to translate client needs into actionable automation solutions.
- Experience working with Control System Integrators (CSI) and Advanced Automation Engineering Teams.
- Exceptional presentation skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Familiarity with industry compliance standards, including ISA-95, ISA-99 (IEC 62443), NERC CIP, and UL508A.
- Experience with Proposal Development, Estimating, and Solution Pricing.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field experience; MBA is a plus.

Salary Range: $128,000 - $192,000 based on experience.
