Job Title: Engineering Manager, Compliance

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary: $137,400 - $163.800

Reports to: Vice President of Engineering

Location: Onsite.

KULR Technology Location: Webster, TX

Travel: 10% travel

Position Overview:

The Engineering Compliance Manager owns the engineering process backbone of the organization. This role ensures that all engineering development—particularly New Product Introduction (NPI)—is executed with complete traceability, disciplined documentation, and audit-ready compliance.

This position is responsible for managing the engineering paper trail, including PLM systems, configuration control, custom development tracking, and technical documentation required to support AS9100 certification and UN 38.8 testing compliance. The Engineering Compliance Manager partners closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Test, Supply Chain, and Program Management to ensure products move from concept to production with full regulatory and customer compliance.

This is a high-trust, high-ownership role critical to KULR's ability to scale advanced, safety-critical products across aerospace, defense, and energy markets.

Functions:

Engineering Compliance & Governance

  • Own and maintain engineering compliance processes across the full product lifecycle.
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with AS9100, customer requirements, and internal policies.
  • Serve as the primary engineering interface for compliance-related audits and assessments.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation at all times.
  • Maintain export control approval systems.

New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Lead engineering compliance for all NPI programs, ensuring proper phase gates, documentation, and approvals.
  • Enforce configuration control, revision management, and change control throughout development.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables (requirements, drawings, BOMs, test reports, analyses) are complete, accurate, and traceable.

PLM & Configuration Management

  • Own the Engineering PLM system, including structure, workflows, permissions, and data integrity.
  • Define and enforce best practices for part numbering, BOM management, revisions, and releases.
  • Manage custom development tracking for customer-specific and non-standard products.
  • Act as the system owner for engineering change management (ECR/ECO/ECN processes).

Documentation & Paper Trail Management

Ensure complete traceability from requirements design build test

  • release.
  • Maintain engineering records supporting certification, qualification, and customer deliverables.
  • Partner with Engineering Managers and Program Leads to close documentation gaps before program milestones.

Audit & Certification Support

  • Lead preparation and execution of annual AS9100 audits.
  • Own engineering inputs for UN 38.8 testing and compliance, ensuring documentation, test records, and reports are complete and defensible.
  • Coordinate with Quality, Test, and external labs to support audits and certifications.
  • Drive corrective actions, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement following audits.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Test, and Supply Chain to align compliance requirements.
  • Train engineering teams on compliance processes, PLM usage, and documentation expectations.

Act as a compliance advisor to Advanced Programs and Product Development teams.

Supervisory Responsibilities:This position may supervise technical or documentation staff as the organization scales.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assigning and reviewing compliance-related work.
  • Providing training, guidance, and performance feedback.

Supporting hiring and team growth as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years experience in engineering compliance, configuration management, quality engineering, or NPI support.
  • Direct experience supporting quality audits.
  • Demonstrated independent project ownership required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

Compliance & Systems Expertise

  • Strong working knowledge of AS9100 requirements as applied to engineering organizations.
  • Experience managing PLM systems and engineering change processes.
  • Deep understanding of configuration management, revision control, and engineering documentation.
  • Familiarity with lithium-ion battery products, testing, and regulatory environments preferred.

Process & Execution Skills

  • Ability to design, implement, and enforce scalable engineering processes.
  • Strong attention to detail without losing sight of program execution velocity.
  • Proven ability to prepare organizations for audits and maintain audit readiness year-round.

Leadership & Communication

  • Ability to influence engineers and program leaders without formal authority.
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable pushing back when compliance requirements are not met.
  • High integrity, ownership mindset, and commitment to quality and safety.

Tools & Systems

  • Experience with PLM systems (Arena, Windchill, Agile, Teamcenter, or similar).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
