Job Summary/Overview

The Land Development Project Engineer is responsible for overseeing and managing all phases of our land development projects, from initial due diligence through final project closeout. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the land development lifecycle, including civil engineering, site feasibility, entitlements, design, permitting, and construction. This role is crucial for ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough site analysis, including zoning, environmental, and engineering reviews, to assess the feasibility of potential land acquisitions.
  • Lead the planning and design process, working with engineers and architects to secure necessary site plan approvals and permits.
  • Coordinate with civil engineers, surveyors, and other consultants to develop project plans, including grading, utilities, and infrastructure.
  • Monitor and manage the construction of project infrastructure, ensuring adherence to design specifications, budget, and schedule.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all planning and design on projects for internal teams and external consultants.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate potential project risks and issues.
  • Manage relationships with external consultants, including engineers, land planners, surveyors, geotechnical engineers, and landscape architects. Ensure all third-party services are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Ensure all projects are in full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental, zoning, and building codes. Prepare and submit all required documentation for agency review and approval.
  • Prepare and present detailed project reports to senior leadership, including project status, budget vs. actuals, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Actively manage the design process, working directly with external departments, the city, and county staff to resolve any issues and expedite approvals.
  • Proactively identify and resolve complex project issues, such as unforeseen site conditions, design conflicts, or regulatory hurdles, with minimal impact on the project timeline and budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in alignment with organizational needs.

Qualifications (Education, Experience, Technical Skills)

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Land Planning, or a related field
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive industry experience required
  • In-depth knowledge of zoning, permitting, land use regulations, and civil design

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Advanced proficiency in AUTOCAD, or other design software, is essential.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Excel and MS Project, is essential.
  • General knowledge of the construction process is preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a proven ability to manage multiple complex situations simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English fluently, with strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Certifications and Licenses

A valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving history is preferred.

Professional Engineer (PE) license or an Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification preferred, but not mandatory.
