Position Summary

The Pingry School seeks a dedicated and adaptable Lower School Permanent Substitute and Auxiliary Programs Associate to join our team. This full-time role requires a dynamic educator who can step into various teaching positions and responsibilities as needed, providing consistent support to students and maintaining continuity of instruction. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with elementary-aged children, strong classroom management skills, and the ability to effectively execute lesson plans across a range of subjects and grade levels.

This is a full-time, 10-month position. Work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., plus aftercare coverage from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • The Lower School Permanent Substitute has a dual reporting line to both the Lower School Division Director for daily substitute responsibilities and the Assistant Director of Auxiliary, Signature Programs, and Registrar for all Auxiliary Programs responsibilities.
  • Serve as a full-time substitute teacher for lower school classes (grades K-5), adapting to the needs of the school each day.
  • Deliver engaging and effective instruction across various subjects, following prepared lesson plans and adapting them as necessary.
  • Manage classroom environments to maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe space for all students.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, administrators, and other faculty to support student learning and school initiatives.
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff, serving as a reliable and approachable presence in the school community.
  • Assist with additional duties as assigned, including supervising lunch, recess, or other school activities.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance, behavior, and progress records, and communicate with appropriate staff as needed.
  • Provide feedback to teachers on student performance and classroom dynamics when covering for extended periods.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Prior experience working with elementary-age children, preferably in a classroom setting.
  • Strong classroom management skills with the ability to create a structured and engaging learning environment.
  • Ability to execute lesson plans effectively and adapt to the needs of diverse learners.
  • Dedication to supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students.
  • Flexibility and an ability to work across various disciplines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable with incorporating the latest technology into your workflow, including Google Classroom, Seesaw, and Zoom.
  • Skilled in navigating the Google Suite of applications (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, etc.).
  • Flexibility, reliability, and a positive attitude toward working in a dynamic school environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators and school staff.

The salary range for this position $50,00-60,000. Final compensation will be determined based on experience and education.
