Read to Succeed Philadelphia (R2S) is a community-based literacy organization dedicated to closing the literacy gap for children and families across Philadelphia. We provide literacy-rich programs, family engagement opportunities, and community partnerships that empower children, strengthen families, and transform communities.

Position Overview

The Community Engagement Intern will play a key role in supporting R2S's relationships with families, volunteers, partners, and the broader community. This role is ideal for someone who is people-centered, organized, and passionate about literacy, equity, and community building.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and coordinating R2S community events (family literacy nights, giveaways, workshops, festivals, etc.).
  • Support outreach to families, volunteers, and community partners through phone calls, emails, and in-person engagement.
  • Help maintain contact databases and track engagement activities.
  • Represent R2S at community events, tabling opportunities, and partner meetings.
  • Gather feedback from families and partners to strengthen program quality.
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, training, and appreciation efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Communications/Marketing team to promote events and share community stories.
  • Provide general support for R2S program and engagement activities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current student or recent graduate in Education, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comfortable engaging with diverse families and communities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Flexible, dependable, and willing to work occasional evenings/weekends for events.
  • Commitment to the mission of literacy, equity, and community empowerment.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 per hour
