The Opportunity
We're seeking an experienced Project Manager to play a pivotal role in transforming how we deliver engineering services. You'll be the first dedicated PM in our organization, establishing professional project management practices that enable our talented engineering team to focus on what they do best—solving complex technical problems for our clients.
This role reports directly to the Managing Director and will work closely with our Chief Engineer and 8-person engineering team (electrical, firmware, and mechanical disciplines).
What You'll Do
Project Leadership & Delivery
* Own end-to-end project delivery for multiple concurrent engineering projects across electronics, firmware, and mechanical design
* Establish predictable, on-time project delivery
* Balance internal and external engineering resources and project loads to affect efficient project outcomes.
* Identify customer scope change requests and work with project team to establish time, material, and financial impacts. create quotes and deliver to the customer. Manage change order plans and internal resources to achieve customer requirements.
* Develop project plans from scope and requirement documents.
Resource Management & Capacity Planning
* Collaborate with engineering teams on resource allocation and capacity planning
* Coordinate between internal engineers and external contractors for optimal project staffing
Process & Systems Implementation
* Lead adoption of Float (or similar) for project/resource management
* Work with Managing Director to implement project intake and scoping processes
* Create and refine Standard Operating Procedures for common project types
* Establish project documentation standards and ensure consistent quality
Financial & Commercial Management
* Own project P&L and ensure projects stay within scope and budget
* Implement tiered pricing structures (junior/standard/senior/PE rates) in project planning
* Track and report project metrics including on-time delivery, budget variance, and gross margins
* Support transition from hourly billing to value-based pricing models
Stakeholder Communication
* Serve as primary client contact for project status, timelines, and escalations
* Conduct regular project status meetings with internal teams and clients
* Coordinate with sales team on project intake and scoping
What You'll Bring
Required:
* 7+ years of project management experience in engineering, manufacturing, or technical services environments
* Proven track record delivering custom engineering or product development projects
* Excellent communication skills with both technical teams and business stakeholders
* Proficiency with project management tools (experience with Jira, MS Project, Float, BQE or similar preferred)
Highly Valued:
* Experience with Agile methodologies for software/firmware development
* Familiarity with hardware development project management
* Background in electronics, firmware, or mechanical engineering (even if not practicing)
* Experience directing PM processes in organizations
* PMP required or similar certification desired
* Experience with ERP/PLM systems
* Collaborative approach
* Balance of assertiveness (to hold teams accountable) and flexibility (to adapt to engineering realities)
* Passion for operational excellence and continuous improvement
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
