The Role An established UK construction contractor is seeking an experienced
Design Manager
to work on a
chemical/industrial building refurbishment project
in
Manchester City Centre .
This role will suit a Design Manager with strong technical knowledge and experience managing complex refurbishment works, particularly within regulated or high-risk environments. You will play a key role in coordinating design information, managing consultants, and ensuring buildability, compliance, and programme certainty throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Managing and coordinating the design process from pre-construction through to completion
Acting as the main point of contact between the construction team, consultants, and the client on design matters
Reviewing and managing design deliverables to ensure compliance with statutory regulations and client requirements
Identifying and managing design risks, clashes, and buildability issues
Supporting procurement by providing clear and timely design information
Managing design change control and ensuring alignment with programme and cost
Ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and best practice, particularly within a chemical/industrial environment
About You
Proven experience as a Design Manager within construction or refurbishment projects
Experience working on industrial, chemical, pharmaceutical, or high-risk environments is highly desirable
Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations and design coordination processes
Confident communicator with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders
Ability to work effectively on a busy city-centre refurbishment project
Relevant construction or design-related qualifications preferred
