POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a GIS / Mapping Technician to support our planning and development projects through high-quality mapping, spatial analysis, and visualization. The ideal candidate brings technical capability, curiosity, and an interest in planning and community development. This role offers mentorship, professional development, and a pathway to more advanced GIS, planning
support, or design responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSABILITIES

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain and update GIS datasets and spatial information systems
  • Produce high-quality mapping outputs for land use planning, development feasibility, zoning analysis, and policy projects
  • Assist in the preparation of conceptual development plans, overlays, and preliminary site layouts
  • Support partners, senior planners, project managers, and design staff with spatial data, mapping requests, and visual materials
  • Conduct occasional field/site visits to document features and collect reference data (training and safety requirements provided)
  • Prepare work logs and weekly timesheet submissions
  • Contribute to project deliverables, public engagement materials, and planning report graphics
  • Perform additional duties as required in a collaborative consulting environment

QUALIFICATION AND CORE COMPETENCIES

The successful candidate will possess:

Education / Experience

· A degree in Geographic Information Systems OR

· A degree in a related field (Planning, Geography, Geomatics, Environmental Science) plus a GIS diploma OR

· At least 1 year of practical GIS experience in a planning, municipal, surveying, environmental, or development context

Technical Skills

Required:

· Proficiency using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online

· Experience working with land-based spatial data and geoprocessing workflows

· Ability to integrate, interpret, or convert AutoCAD (DWG) files

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Preferred / Assets:

· Experience with Adobe Illustrator and InDesign for map and report layout

· Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop

· Ability to automate or streamline tasks using Python or ModelBuilder

· Understanding of Ontario land use planning datasets, mapping standards, and policy context

Professional Competencies

· Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in mapping outputs

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic consulting environment

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively

· Curiosity, initiative, and willingness to learn new tools and workflows

WORKING CONDITIONS

· Work Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week)

· General Office Hours 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM when working from the office

· Location: Hybrid/In office (Home office locations for this position can be in Niagara Falls, Hamilton, Toronto, or Kingston).

· Payroll every two weeks

· Salary Range: $28 to $35 per hour, commensurate with experience
