Job Summary:
The Shredder Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of metal shredding equipment. This role involves monitoring the shredding process, ensuring quality control, and maintaining equipment to optimize performance. The ideal candidate will have experience in operating heavy machinery, a strong commitment to safety, and a passion for recycling.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Equipment Operation
Operate and monitor metal shredding machinery to process various types of metals, ensuring adherence to production schedules.
Adjust machine settings as necessary to achieve desired output and quality standards.
2. Quality Control
Inspect shredded materials for quality and consistency, ensuring compliance with company specifications and industry standards.
Identify and address any issues related to material quality or equipment performance.
3. Safety Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
Conduct regular safety checks on equipment and report any malfunctions or safety hazards to management.
4. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
Perform routine maintenance on shredding equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts.
Troubleshoot equipment issues and collaborate with maintenance personnel to resolve problems promptly.
5. Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of production output, equipment performance, and any incidents or safety concerns.
Report daily production metrics to management and participate in regular team meetings.
6. Team Collaboration:
Work closely with other team members to ensure efficient workflow and communication throughout the recycling process.
Assist in training new operators and provide guidance on best practices for equipment operation and safety.
7. Environmental Stewardship:
Adhere to environmental regulations and company policies related to waste management and recycling practices.
Promote a culture of sustainability and responsible recycling within the workplace.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in heavy machinery operation is a plus.
Minimum of 5 years of experience operating shredding or heavy machinery, preferably in a recycling or manufacturing environment.
-Basic mechanical skills and troubleshooting abilities. Ability to perform maintenance on the shredder and auxiliary equipment, including (but not limited to) welding, torching, parts replacement.
Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to heavy equipment operation.
Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy materials and standing for extended periods.
Basic mechanical skills and troubleshooting abilities.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Day and night availability. Schedule can change on short notice. Available to work on weekends.
