About

The Laser Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring machinery to produce precision sheet metal components in accordance with engineering specifications and production requirements. This role supports daily manufacturing operations by ensuring quality, efficiency, and adherence to safety standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set up, operate, and monitor laser cutting machines to produce precision sheet metal parts
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders
  • Perform first-article and in-process inspections to verify accuracy and quality
  • Adjust laser parameters to maintain consistent cut quality across various materials and thicknesses
  • Utilize measuring and inspection tools such as calipers and height gauges to ensure tight tolerances
  • Maintain accurate production, quality, and material records using ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite)
  • Follow all safety protocols and support a clean, organized shop environment in accordance with 5S/6S standards
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to support production flow and resolve issues

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Prior experience operating laser cutting equipment preferred 

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong blueprint reading and print interpretation skills
  • Experience with G-code and basic print modification
  • Ability to use precision measuring and inspection equipment
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with ERP systems and CAD software
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

Work Environment:
This position is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to loud noise, moving machinery, and fluctuating temperatures. The role requires operating and monitoring machinery and working in close proximity to other production equipment. Employees must follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with company policy and applicable safety regulations.

Physical Demands:

The role requires the ability to handle various physical demands, including:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Repetitive motion and manual handling of materials
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to safely operate machinery while following ergonomic and safety practices

Compensation:

This position is non-exempt and complies with California's wage and hour laws. Compensation for this role ranges from $25.00 to $30.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
