Janitor/Cleaner

Pelenti Group is seeking reliable, kind, and compassionate Janitorial Staff to support our temporary shelter for un-housed women during the severe weather season. This position plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and dignified environment for residents and staff.

Ideal candidates will take pride in their work, treat residents with respect, and approach every task with empathy and professionalism.

WORK SCHEDULE: Overnight shift, 12am-9am, temporary through March

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect bathrooms, showers, and common areas on a regular schedule.
• Sweep, mop, and sanitize sleeping areas, hallways, and dining areas.
• Safely dispose of trash, biohazard materials, and other waste in compliance with safety procedures.
• Maintain restroom supplies, paper products, and cleaning inventory.
• Report maintenance or sanitation issues promptly to the Site Manager.
• Follow all safety and infection control protocols.
• Be comfortable working in environments where exposure to bodily fluids (including urine and feces) may occur.
• Uphold the dignity and privacy of all shelter residents while performing cleaning tasks.
• Work collaboratively with other shelter staff to ensure a welcoming and orderly environment.

Qualifications

• Previous janitorial, housekeeping, or custodial experience preferred.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings during severe weather alerts.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Must not be afraid of cleaning up bodily fluids, feces, or urine as part of sanitation duties.
• Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented.
• Compassionate attitude and commitment to serving vulnerable populations.

Work Location: In‑person in Northeast DC , in the New York Ave NE / Bladensburg Rd NE area.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $19.00 per hour
