Job Summary:
The Site Superintendent is directly responsible for overseeing the operations of a construction site, from planning to completion. The Site Superintendent is responsible for daily scheduling, supervising all activities and tasks, and ensuring the safety and compliance of the site.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Project dependent.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the inspection of Contractor or (Sub) Contract operations to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintains healthy relationships with our internal and external clients, including representatives of the VA Hospitals.
- Develops and maintains site logistics plan, in coordination with Project Managers.
- Conducts quality safety inspections.
- Takes on the role of Site Safety while on the project.
- Coordinates site testing and inspection efforts.
- Monitors costs, including labor time and material.
- Manages employees' schedules.
- Prepares and submits Daily Reports to the VA.
- Attends and participates in all project meetings, including subcontractor meetings.
Conducts weekly safety meetings (Toolbox Talks).
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good math and accounting skills.
- Strong management skills (able to manage multiple crews on multiple projects).
- Strong ability to read drawings and specifications.
- Delegates work appropriately to Site Supervisors.
- Strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Must be a self-starter.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and related construction software's.
- Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, schedules and have strong decision-making skills.
- Ability to supervise multiple trades and maintain quality control of varied government construction projects per plans and specifications provided.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required, Community College, Trade School or Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
- Minimum ten (10) years' experience in a superintendent role in commercial construction.
- Experience working with the Veterans Affairs Hospitals, or on Government Projects.
- General Contractor (GC) License and Construction Quality Management (CQM) certification preferred.
- Prior military experience preferred
- OSHA 30-hour certification required.
- First Aid/CPR certification required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and working on-site.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including exposure to heat, noise, and dust.
Manual dexterity and physical stamina for handling tools and equipment
Travel is required.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed on construction sites.
- Exposure to external weather conditions that can include inclement, heat, and humidity.
- Exposure to construction site environments, including noise, dust, and machinery.
