Job Title: Plant Maintenance TechnicianJob Summary
The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and repairing plant systems and equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operations. Equipment includes, but is not limited to, balers, conveyor systems, gearboxes, electric motors, pulleys, shafts, and bearings.
This role responds to equipment failures by performing or coordinating repairs to restore functionality and safety. The position reports to the Plant Maintenance Manager (title may vary by site).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform repairs in compliance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules and OSHA requirements.
- Conduct preventive maintenance (PM) inspections and diagnose, repair, and rebuild major equipment and components, including but not limited to:
- Balers and conveyors
- Hydraulic power packs
- Eddy currents and electromagnetic belts
- Optical sorters and diverters
- Compressors and trash compactors
- Motors, glass breakers, wire tie systems, fans, and pumps
- Forklifts, front-end loaders, and building equipment
- Maintain and manage Daily Equipment Inspection (DEI) backlogs.
- Establish and adjust work procedures to meet production schedules; notify the Senior Plant Maintenance Manager when work cannot be completed within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
- Inspect and evaluate the quality of third-party repairs and rebuilds.
- Recommend improvements to production efficiency, equipment performance, and product quality.
- Perform emergency service calls for equipment breakdowns.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.
- Perform all work according to established safety procedures.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check (including employment history, criminal history, and motor vehicle record review)
Education and Experience
- Education: High School Diploma or GED (accredited)
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of relevant maintenance or mechanical experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of single-phase and three-phase electrical systems
- Knowledge of electrical control systems
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including air compressors
- Ability to safely operate tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair
- Ability to diagnose defects and repair a variety of plant equipment and vehicles
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and multitasking skills
