About

Job Overview

PlanChecker AI is seeking a highly skilled and driven AI Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will play a critical part in designing, building, and deploying advanced artificial intelligence systems that automate architectural plan review, code compliance analysis, and construction intelligence workflows. You will work at the intersection of AI, software engineering, and the built environment, contributing directly to a platform that is transforming how buildings are reviewed, approved, and validated across the United States.

This position offers the opportunity to work on complex, real-world problems involving computer vision, large language models, structured regulatory data, and geospatial intelligence. If you thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, enjoy building production-grade AI systems, and want to make a measurable impact on the construction and real estate industries, this role is an excellent fit.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy AI and machine learning models for architectural plan analysis, building code compliance, and construction validation
  • Build and optimize pipelines for processing PDFs, drawings, images, and structured plan data at scale
  • Implement and fine-tune large language models (LLMs) for code interpretation, plan checking, and automated reasoning
  • Develop computer vision solutions for extracting dimensions, symbols, annotations, and structural elements from architectural and engineering drawings
  • Collaborate closely with product, frontend, and backend engineers to integrate AI systems into production workflows
  • Work with regulatory datasets (building codes, zoning rules, Title 24, CBC/IBC, local amendments) and translate them into machine-readable logic
  • Continuously improve model accuracy, performance, and reliability through testing, evaluation, and iteration
  • Maintain clear documentation of models, assumptions, and system architecture
  • Stay current with advances in AI, machine learning, and applied research relevant to construction, compliance, and automation

Requirements

  • Strong experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or applied data science
  • Proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX)
  • Experience working with large language models, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems
  • Familiarity with computer vision techniques for document analysis, image segmentation, or object detection
  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles, APIs, and production deployment
  • Experience working with unstructured data such as PDFs, drawings, or scanned documents
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and take ownership of complex features
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
  • Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-moving startup environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with architectural, engineering, or construction (AEC) data
  • Familiarity with building codes, zoning regulations, or plan review processes
  • Experience with geospatial data, drones, robotics, or 3D mapping
  • Background in SaaS, compliance automation, or enterprise AI systems

Why PlanChecker AI

  • Work on cutting-edge AI systems with real-world regulatory and economic impact
  • Help modernize a legacy industry using advanced automation and intelligence
  • High ownership, high responsibility role with room for rapid growth
  • Collaborative, technically rigorous, and mission-driven team
