Fire Equipment Maintainer (Augmented)

Description Perform regular inspections, testing, repair, troubleshooting, and documentation of fire protection systems, fire protection equipment, emergency equipment, safety equipment; Conduct routine inspections throughout the plant for the detection of deficiencies related to fire prevention.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct monthly and annual fire extinguisher inspection and maintenance according to an established schedule.  
  • Refill/recharge fire extinguishers or arrange for specific extinguishing agents to be picked up for service.
  • Monthly Inspection of SCBA equipment (regulator tests).
  • Perform regular inspections and be knowledgeable in operation of plant fire truck.
  • Perform skilled work pertaining to the inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance of all types of fire systems and equipment, including work such as: dismantling, alignment and reassembly of deluge valves, alarm valves, etc.
  • Perform regular inspections of all fire hose stations and hydro testing of all fire hose throughout the plant.  Flush headers as needed.  Repair or change out fire fittings associated with fire hose standpipes.
  • Perform regular inspections of AED's, first responder bags, escape breathers, and other life safety equipment throughout the plant to assure they are adequately stocked and functioning.
  • Perform regular inspections of plant property for the detection of fire hazards or concerns, reporting those found to the proper authority, assist in removal of fire hazards.
  • Perform inspection and preventive maintenance on post indicator valves, hydrants, and other fire supply equipment.
  • Compile and track records on inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance on all fire systems.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and ordinary fashion.
  • Instruct and direct the work of other employees assigned to assist in the repair and upkeep of systems and equipment.
  • Perform duties in accordance with Company Safety Policies & Procedures.
  • Perform visual inspection of all fire doors, i.e., moving parts, chains and fusible links.
  • Assist with Fire Brigade and Emergency Response trainings. 
  • Perform similar or less skilled work.
  • Assist employees of other classifications.      
  • Perform duties in accordance with all applicable federal and state safety laws and regulations, and all applicable company safety rules and operating procedures; when supervising others, assure that safe work practices are followed and conduct safety meetings; make suggestions for the improvement of the safety program and encourage others to do so.
  • Responsible for knowing and complying with the laws and Code of Business Conduct related to the performance of the aforementioned duties.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of industrial or fire related work experience preferred .
  • Through a combination of education and/or experience must have sufficient knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities listed above as well as the ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities required.
  • Must be able to review original equipment manuals and procedures.
  • Must be able to lead and direct those assigned to work with.
  • Must have a working knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.

Benefits This is a contract position, and the successful candidate will not be eligible for full-time benefits equivalent to that of a regular employee.  However, as an augmented employee, the successful candidate will be eligible for:
