Overview
REMM Hauling N More LLC is seeking a skilled, safety-driven Directional Driller / Heavy Equipment Operator to join our construction and underground utility installation team. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in heavy equipment operation, underground utility work, and horizontal directional drilling (HDD). This role involves operating specialized drilling equipment, coordinating underground crossings, and supporting a wide range of construction activities across multiple job sites.
Candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and experience operating excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, and dump trucks will thrive in this position. Experience performing underground crossings using air compressors and missile (pneumatic boring) systems is considered a major plus. A valid CDL is preferred. Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment and related tooling safely and efficiently.
- Perform underground utility installations including water lines, pipelines, conduits, and communication cables.
- Execute underground crossings using air compressors and missile / pneumatic boring systems (highly desirable skill).
- Operate heavy equipment including excavators, backhoes, water trucks, and dump trucks.
- Plan and monitor drilling operations to maintain proper alignment, depth accuracy, and compliance with project specifications.
- Assist with site preparation, excavation, potholing, daylighting, and restoration activities.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance to ensure operational safety and performance.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and environmental regulations at all times.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field crews to ensure efficient workflow and on-time project completion.
- Accurately document work performed, production progress, and report any issues, hazards, or delays promptly.
Qualifications
- Proven experience operating heavy construction equipment in a utility or construction environment.
- Experience with horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and/or underground utility installation preferred.
- Experience performing bore crossings using air compressors and missile / pneumatic boring equipment is a strong plus.
- Solid mechanical knowledge with the ability to perform basic equipment troubleshooting and routine maintenance.
- Familiarity with construction safety standards, utility locating procedures, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Strong understanding of construction processes including grading, excavation, paving preparation, and utility installation.
- Experience operating Caterpillar or similar heavy equipment brands is beneficial.
- Ability to work efficiently under varying site conditions, terrain, and weather environments.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred; candidates holding a CDL must meet all DOT and FMCSA requirements, including medical certification and driving record standards.
- Willingness and ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing in compliance with company, DOT, and client requirements.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check as required for jobsite access, utility work, and client contracts.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced field environment.
