Structural CAD Drafter

Job Description

R & O Engineering, P.C. one of the leading Structural Engineering Company in Queens, NY is seeking a full time Structural CAD Drafter . A Structural CAD Drafter prepares detailed structural drawings, plans, and layouts under the direction of structural engineers. This role involves creating and ensuring compliance with project specifications, building codes, and company standards. The drafter plays a key role in coordinating design information, supporting engineering calculations, and preparing documentation for construction.

JOB REQUIREMENTS / SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

• Key ResponsibilitiesDrafting & Modeling
• Produce detailed structural drawings including plans, sections, elevations, and connection details.
• Create and update drawings using software (AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, etc.).
• Interpret engineering sketches, calculations, and design notes.
• Prepare shop drawings, reinforcement layouts, and structural steel detailing as needed.

Coordination & Documentation

• Work closely with structural engineers to resolve design issues and incorporate revisions.
• Coordinate drawing content with other disciplines (architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil).
• Maintain organized drawing files and adhere to company CAD standards and templates.
• Assist in preparing documentation packages for permitting, bidding, and construction.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure accuracy of dimensions, notes, materials, and design references.
• Apply relevant building codes, standards, and project requirements to drawings.
• Conduct self-checks and participate in quality reviews before issue.

Technical Support

• Support engineers with quantity take-offs, as-built updates, and record drawings.
• Maintain familiarity with new drafting tools, BIM technologies, and industry best practices.

QualificationsEducation & Experience

• Diploma or associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field.
• 3-5+ years of structural drafting experience (depending on level).
• Experience in structural steel, reinforced concrete, wood, or masonry drafting preferred.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD; Revit or BIM software experience is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of structural components, construction methods, and engineering terminology.
• Understanding of building codes and drafting standards.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: From $35.00 per hour
