Your Role in Supporting Our Members:
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will play a critical role in shaping how advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI drive strategic decision-making and enhance our member experience. As part of our Analytics Centre of Excellence, you will design, build, and operationalize predictive and prescriptive models that integrate multiple data sources, delivering scalable, reliable solutions that create measurable business value.
This role combines deep technical expertise with strong business acumen and influence. You will work closely with leaders across the organization to identify high-impact opportunities, translate complex challenges into actionable analytics, and ensure insights are adopted in day-to-day decision-making.
This is a full-time, permanent role based at our Vancity head office and will report directly to the Director, Strategic Insights. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you may be expected to be on-site as business demands.
How You'll Make an Impact:
- Designing, leading, and maintaining advanced analytics solutions including predictive and prescriptive models, algorithms, and AI prototypes that support strategic objectives and improve member outcomes.
- Owning the full model lifecycle, from design and development through deployment, pipeline integration, monitoring, retraining, and retirement, applying ML Ops best practices to ensure reliability, scalability, and reproducibility.
- Continuously improving model performance through experimentation, feedback loops, testing, and iteration to enhance accuracy, effectiveness, and business relevance.
- Identifying and framing complex business problems, translating ambiguous questions into well-defined analytical approaches and recommending model types and methodologies that balance accuracy, scalability, and impact.
- Partnering across the organization, collaborating with senior managers, directors, VPs, and executives to secure buy-in, and working closely with IT and data engineering teams to operationalize models and build robust data pipelines.
- Enabling adoption and influencing decision-making, engaging employees, including front-line teams where appropriate, to embed model outputs into daily transactions, sales conversations, and operational workflows.
- Translating complex analytics into clear, compelling insights, using storytelling and evidence-based recommendations to make advanced models accessible and actionable for non-technical audiences.
- Acting as a thought leader and trusted advisor, challenging assumptions, reducing bias, and influencing strategic decisions through data-driven insights.
- Providing technical and people leadership, mentoring and coaching junior data scientists, analysts, and interns; leading projects end-to-end; and setting direction for technical design and best practices.
- Shaping the organization's analytics maturity, serving as a subject matter expert in advanced analytics and contributing to the evolution of Vancity's machine learning and AI strategy.
- Driving continuous learning and innovation, staying current with emerging data science and ML best practices and applying them to improve products, services, member experience, and financial performance.
What You'll Bring to the Team:
- 6 – 9 years expertise in advanced analytics, machine learning, and statistical modeling, with experience designing, developing and deploying models in production environments.
- Fluent in Python, SQL, Scala, and Power BI, with strong proficiency in Azure and hands‑on experience using Databricks for analytics, and model development.
- Strong understanding and proven experience in ML Ops practices, including model monitoring, retraining, versioning, and lifecycle management.
- Proven ability to translate complex business challenges into effective analytical solutions that deliver measurable impact.
- Advanced education in a quantitative field (e.g., Master's or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or Economics), or a Bachelor's degree paired with substantial industry experience and a strong record of applied machine learning work.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders by translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights, and to scope and drive end‑to‑end projects involving multiple stakeholders while maintaining alignment with overarching business goals.
- A collaborative mindset with experience partnering closely with data engineers, IT teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Leadership experience mentoring and guiding other data science professionals, with a passion for teaching and knowledge sharing.
- Curiosity, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning and innovation.
- Strong expertise in experimentation, feature engineering, and data storytelling, with the ability to drive adoption of analytics solutions across both technical and non‑technical teams, and a strategic mindset for shaping long‑term data science capabilities.
- Understanding of data quality, privacy, security, and ethical AI considerations, particularly in regulated or high-trust environments.
Bonus points, if you have:
- Experience in any of the following domains would be considered an asset: financial services/banking, credit cards/payments, credit risk, marketing campaigns, CRM, call center operations
You'll Thrive Here If You Are:

- Human-centered – You design analytics with end users in mind, ensuring insights are accessible, actionable, and embedded into daily workflows.
- Strategic – You connect model design and analytical approaches to broader organizational goals, balancing technical excellence with measurable business impact.
- Mentorship-driven – You enjoy coaching and developing others, sharing best practices and building analytics capability across the organization.
