Job Overview
The Medical Front Desk Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment. This position is responsible for greeting patients, managing the check-in and check-out process, scheduling appointments, and verifying insurance benefits to ensure accurate billing and smooth patient flow.
Responsibilities
- Front Desk Operations
- Greet patients and visitors in a friendly, professional manner.
- Check patients in and out efficiently while maintaining confidentiality.
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments.
- Answer incoming calls, route messages, and respond to patient inquiries.
- Maintain a clean and organized reception area.
- Insurance Verification & Billing Support
- Verify patient insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits prior to appointments or procedures.
- Obtain necessary authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications as required.
- Accurately enter and update insurance and demographic information in the practice management system.
- Collect co-pays, deductibles, and outstanding balances at the time of service.
- Communicate clearly with billing staff regarding coverage or eligibility issues.
- Patient Relations & Office Support
- Provide excellent customer service and assist patients with questions or paperwork.
- Handle sensitive information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support clinical and administrative staff with daily office operations as needed.
- Ensure accurate documentation and recordkeeping of all front desk activities.
Skills
- Ophthalmology / Oculoplasty Experience preferred (1-2 yrs).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with multi-line phone systems and strong phone etiquette.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to enhance communication with diverse patients.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Excellent typing skills with attention to detail for data entry and proofreading.
- Previous experience in office management or clerical roles is preferred.
- Demonstrated customer service skills with a focus on client satisfaction.
- Familiarity with calendar management and scheduling software.
- Proficient in online Insurance Verification and collection of copay/deductibles.
