This is a fun opportunity to join the Trumbull & Porter Art Boutique Hotel leadership team in the cool Corktown area of Downtown Detroit We are looking for the right personality to help lead a very talented front desk team with a lot of experience at our hotel. We would love applicants who can lead by example and keep us the friendliest hotel in the Detroit area and have this job fit their goals and needs.
Since we finished our renovations last year we have become so busy as 2025 has been our busiest year by far and we need more coverage and leadership to help keep raising the standards and make work fun for the staff. Come hang out with this fun team as most people here have worked here for years and we certainly maintain an easy going environment.
In downtown, the front desk and coffee shop can be very busy at times as we cater mostly to people coming to the city for a concert, sporting event, conference, etc. where running our front could mean you are on your feet for some hours. However there will be many hours of inactivity so if the lobby is all clean and stocked and there are no guests to help, please do have a book or game or Netflix show handy to pass the time.
Job Title: Front Desk Manager
Reports to: General Manager
SUMMARY:
As a Front Desk Manager, you should combine a pleasant personality with a dynamic professional attitude and possess a natural talent for customer service. You will ensure our guests feel welcomed and as though they can get anything they might want or need. You will be the direct leader for the team running the front desk and coffee shop and always look for ways we can not only improve our service, but improve the work life for an excellent and kind staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Go above and beyond the guests' expectations at every opportunity
- Ensure front desk is clean and free from clutter and has all necessary hotel information
- Check guests in, ensuring proper credit is received, special requests are noted and fulfilled
- Answer the telephone in a professional and friendly manner and assist caller with any questions
- Maintains professional working relationships and communicates with all departments
- Resolves guest problems quickly, efficiently, and courteously
- Promote and sell special hotel programs, special rate packages and upgrades when appropriate
- Maintain an up to date working knowledge of all hotel amenities as well as any local special events
- Solicit guest feedback
- Follow cash drawer policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as requested by management
Minimum Requirements
- Previous job experience working in the public.
- A decent job record showing dedication to improving your career.
- Familiarity with computers, internet and Microsoft Office software.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong skills in mathematics for basic computations and reasoning.
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
- Organizational skills including follow-through, problem solving, and communication.
- Ability to stand or sit for hours at a time.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
- High school or equivalent education required.
COMPETENCY:
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
- Proficiency in English (verbal and written)
- Previous cash-handling experience
- Problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of customer service
- Previous experience with office machines and computers
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The position operates in a professional work environment inside of a hotel. Dress code is just a Trumbull and Porter T-Shirt and jeans/pants as although sometimes our prices can top over $500, we like to create and laid back and inviting atmosphere.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35, $40,560.00 per year
