Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA)
Location: Southside Village Dental Care, 3823 S. Osprey Ave, Sarasota, FL 34239
Schedule: Full-Time
Reports To: Dr. Bettner/Office Manager
Role Summary
We are seeking a motivated Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) to support high-quality, patient-centered dentistry within a proven, system-driven practice environment. This role is ideal for an EFDA who enjoys working at the top of their license, values teamwork and accountability, and takes pride in delivering an excellent patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
Expanded Functions
- Place, contour, and finish direct restorations (amalgam and composite) per state guidelines
- Assist with digital final impressions, bite registrations, and fabricate temporary restorations
- Cement and remove temporary crowns; place retraction cord, liners, and bases as allowed
- Assist with crown & bridge, implant, and restorative procedures
- Support surgical and implant procedures with proper setup and chairside assistance
- Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation
Chairside & Patient Experience
- Prepare and maintain treatment rooms to established standards
- Anticipate doctor needs to support efficient, on-time schedules
- Educate patients on procedures, post-op care, and home care instructions
- Deliver a calm, professional, and confident chairside experience
Clinical Systems & Compliance
- Follow practice's clinical protocols and workflows
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, CDC, HIPAA, and state dental board regulations
- Perform instrument sterilization and operatory turnover
- Assist with clinical supply monitoring and organization
Team & Growth
- Participate in daily huddles, team meetings, and training
- Support practice goals related to efficiency, growth, and patient satisfaction
- Demonstrate reliability, accountability, and a team-first mindset
Qualifications
Required
- Current EFDA certification/licensure
- Dental Assistant certification (if applicable)
- CPR/BLS certification
- Strong knowledge of dental materials and procedures
Preferred
- Experience in restorative, implant, or cosmetic dentistry
- Familiarity with digital dentistry and practice management software (Dentrix preferred)
