Overview
Ring is seeking an exceptional Principal System Development Engineer to lead the development of autonomous drone systems that will revolutionize home security. In this role, you will architect and deliver autonomous flight systems that integrate seamlessly with Ring's ecosystem of smart home security products. Responsibilities
Provide technical direction across hardware, firmware, and software teams developing drone systems Drive critical technical decisions on autonomy algorithms, sensor selection, and system integration Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the organization Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product management, industrial design, and business teams to translate customer needs into technical requirements Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with computer vision, machine learning, and robotics teams to integrate advanced AI capabilities Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with manufacturing and operations teams to ensure designs are production-ready and cost-effective Innovation & Problem Solving: Solve complex technical challenges in autonomous navigation, obstacle avoidance, and safe operation in residential environments Innovation & Problem Solving: Drive innovation in battery life optimization, real-time video streaming, and edge computing for drones Innovation & Problem Solving: Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in autonomous systems and robotics Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field Knowledge of infrastructure automation delivered through the software development lifecycle in an API-enabled environment, including agile development, software architecture/patterns, and modern cloud services Knowledge of the tools of the trade, including a variety of modern programming languages (Rust, Java, C/C++), and a solid understanding of the Linux operating system Experience in planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software Experience delivering large-scale infrastructure products that support Tier-1 mission critical services with a focus on privacy, security, availability, and efficiency Experience with autonomous systems, robotics, or drone development Deep expertise in one or more areas: flight control systems, sensor fusion, computer vision, or embedded systems Preferred Qualifications
Experience directly working with cloud hosting technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.) Experience with AWS platforms, services, and design patterns Experience with distributed systems at scale Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
