JOB INFORMATION

This position is responsible for performing instructional and student support duties that facilitate activities of the Computer Information Systems Program, the Cybersecurity Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) and the IT apprenticeship. This position supports operation of the Center and assists with maintenance of the lab and equipment, participates in the development of co-curricular and extracurricular activities, and provides support to students including advising, learning reinforcement activities, and feedback. This position will develop a variety of outreach activities to engage potential employers in strategic relationships, recruit and retain students, and develop broad knowledge of the IT Apprenticeship and BOLI requirements.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Support

  • Develops individual and group relationships with students enrolled in the CIS program to support certificate and degree completion
  • Provides one-on-one learning support and mentoring to students
  • Develops and supports a variety of activities to help students understand the CIS career pathway, including student club activities and the IT Apprenticeship.
  • Conducts outreach to service-district high schools, career fairs, and other events in order to increase visibility of the program and available credentials to the potential students

Program Support

  • Evaluates and recommends program resources; evaluates and recommends co- curricular and extracurricular activities; coordinates lab scheduling and assignments with faculty; assists faculty with learning activities
  • Leads work-study or part-time hourly students in the performance of duties in accordance with established guidelines
  • Develops and maintains program web pages, newsletter and other student communications
  • Actively participates in scheduled staff meetings, meets and communicates with instructors to review and coordinate program activities, attends lab or class sessions when requested
  • Completes all required grant reports and develops systems to collect grant data
  • Learns and utilizes all internal and external systems related to the IT Apprenticeship
  • Assists in tracking and meeting all grant and BOLI outcomes

Employer Engagement

  • Develops and delivers presentations for employer and community groups
  • Works with instructors, CWE office, and other college departments to cultivate and support new and existing internship and apprenticeship sites and opportunities
  • Schedules employer tours, job shadows, and informational interviews
  • Provides in person and virtual tours of the CAE for employers and community partners
  • Engages in a variety of activities related to securing strategic partnerships with employers as defined by the Strengthening Community Colleges grant outcomes and expectations

Lab Support

  • Promotes a positive lab environment by maintaining good rapport with students and instructors
  • Provides assistance and support to students and/or faculty in the use of applicable equipment and technology resources; monitors use of equipment to ensure appropriate utilization of equipment
  • Maintains schedule for facility utilization. Prepares and maintains related records including tracking student lab usage
  • Coordinates CAE lab computers in cooperation with the college IT department. Help Desk requests to IT as needed
  • Performs basic facility maintenance duties to ensure a clean and safe environment for lab patrons
  • Oversees and maintains department inventory, supplies, equipment, reference materials, and other related items to ensure effective and efficient functioning of the CAE. Works in coordination with the Dean's office to ensure necessary supplies and equipment are in place

Minimum Qualifications:

This level requires an equivalency of two (2) years of full-time work experience that reflects the knowledge, skills and experience to perform the essential functions listed above

This is typically achieved through an Associate's Degree or two (2) years of full-time work experience that reflects the knowledge, skills and experience to perform the essential functions listed above

Core Competencies:

  • Ability to build positive and productive relationships with students, faculty, and industry partners
  • Knowledge of Cybersecurity, and other computer applications taught and utilized in the Computer Information Systems program
  • Bicultural/multicultural skills sufficient to select appropriate behaviors, values and attitudes within different cultures during interactions with others

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited institution in Computer Information Systems or Computer Science
  • Two or more years of paid work experience in the Cybersecurity or Computer Information Systems industry
  • Reflects the cultural and language background of the community college students served in the CIS program
  • Experience with college internship or practicum as a staff member or student
  • Experience working or learning with people from a variety of cultural, social, economic, and educational backgrounds
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

SCHEDULE & MODALITY

This position is not eligible for remote/hybrid work.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This is a limited duration 100%, 12-month classified assignment at the level 12 pay rate. This position has an end date of June 30, 2026.
  • This position has a 6-month probationary period
  • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
  • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
  • If requested, requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
  • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary requirements are met.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS

Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
