FLSA Status:Salary, Exempt

Hours: Full-Time - 40 hours per week, days, nights, holidays and one weekend a month (required)

Compensation: $57,000.00 annually

This is a professional, supervisory, highly confidential management position responsible for leading and enhancing management of the Museum's safety and security programs at all sites. This position reports directly to the Director of Exhibits, Facilities & Security.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES including, but not limited to:

  • Develop and manage effective security programs for all Museum facilities.
  • Oversee the security personnel including the hiring, training, performance evaluations, and scheduling of work for all shifts to cover the 24-hour period.
  • Supervise and monitor employees' work, attendance, reports, timesheets, and appearance.
  • Works with the Director of Exhibits, Facilities & Security, to ensure that safety and security procedures are followed.
  • Serves as a security systems administrator for the computerized access control system-conducts console training, issues access cards and passwords, performs system updates, runs reports, etc.
  • Regularly develops and reviews reports and logs of daily operations including incident and injury reports and security alarm logs.
  • Provides leadership in handling, and coordinating an effective response to critical incidents and emergency situations.
  • Develops and implements a security program of regularly scheduled inspections, testing, and maintenance of safety and security systems, equipment, and procedures for all Museum sites.
  • Help manage coordination with vendor contractor access into facility(s) for operational building services.
  • Manages the inventory and security systems dealing with keys, locks, key logs, lockout/tag outs, access cards, fire extinguishers, etc.
  • Conducts or coordinates training of security personnel regarding updated policies, procedures, and operations, as well as CPR, First Aid, and AED.
  • Develops and organizes regular reports and updates training manuals as needed in a timely manner.
  • Conducts and or manages annual training with Museum staff on Emergency Evacuation and other training, i.e. Active Shooter.
  • Serves as lead in the planning, development, and implementation of security strategies in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Provides regular communications with other department managers as needed and works cooperatively with management in other departments to address service needs.
  • Assists with budget development for security operations; develops and implements relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure results.
  • Provides assistance to law enforcement agencies and security personnel when necessary.
  • Maintains adequate safety and security inventory supplies , access cards,and first aid materials.
  • Helps ensure staff and visitors are safe and in compliance with Museum standard protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • May be expected to assume some of the responsibilities of the Director in their absence.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

WORKSKILLS:

  • Knowledgeable about relevant federal, state, and local laws.
  • Proficient understanding of professional security and safety requirements and best practice protocols.
  • Ability to learn the Museum's operations and standards, policies and procedures, and implement effective security protocols that support such processes.
  • Ability to assess dynamic situations and quickly evaluate the level of threat and appropriate response for the protection of the Museum, staff, and visitors.
  • Ability to use mechanical and electronic equipment associated with the Museum's security, safety, and HVAC systems including the ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings as related to security systems and mechanical systems.
  • Strong people skills; work and communicate diplomatically and courteously with staff, other team members, volunteers, guests, departments and key stakeholders to meet common objectives and desired outcomes.
  • Must be organized, dependable, punctual and possess a strong work ethic.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Must be proficient with various computer technology programs/systems.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to develop and use data reports for continuous operational improvements.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in the management of security or related fields.
  • Knowledge of security and safety equipment and systems including appropriate inspection and testing procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of public spaces and employee workplace safety policies and practices including OSHA and MIOSHA regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in managing time, projects, processes and resources to produce desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrate strong written and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to function effectively in a team environment, as well as work independently.
  • Ability to work tactfully, and effectively and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and work well with other managers.
  • Ability to be flexible, maintain a positive attitude and lead by example.
  • Must possess a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service with an ability to support the Museum's goal of creating a welcoming environment for staff and visitors.
  • Ability to analyze and take steps to control emergency situations quickly and safely.
  • A valid Michigan driver's license is required.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Criminal Justice, preferred.
  • Certification in CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid, preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to stand, move, run, bend, stoop, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds.
