Location : Stevenage or Bristol, UK – Hybrid (typically 4 days on-site due to project classification)
Salary : Circa £64,000 depending on experience

A leading defence technology organisation is looking for an Embedded Software Verification & Validation Engineer to join their Real-Time Embedded Software group. You’ll work across a varied portfolio of complex work packages, helping to qualify software and components used in some of the most advanced defence systems in the world.
This is a hands‑on role working closely with passionate engineering teams. You’ll take real project requirements, turn them into structured test cases, prepare and execute detailed test campaigns, capture data, and provide clear technical feedback that directly shapes product maturity. It’s an ideal role for someone who thrives in a lab environment and enjoys solving practical problems on electro‑mechanical systems running embedded software.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing robust test procedures from system and software requirements
Executing tests in a lab environment and capturing high-quality data
Providing actionable feedback to software and systems teams
Supporting qualification of embedded, real‑time components
Applying strong troubleshooting and scripting skills to streamline test activity
Skills and experience required:
Solid background in Verification & Validation within an embedded software setting
Experience creating structured test cases from technical requirements
Comfortable working hands‑on with electro‑mechanical hardware running embedded code
Understanding of the full software engineering lifecycle
Scripting capability (e.g. Python or similar)
Desirable experience (not essential):
Exposure to safety‑critical systems
Familiarity with standards such as DefStan 00‑55 or DO‑178C/DO‑330
Embedded development experience in Ada and/or C/C++
Understanding of real‑time operating systems
Model‑driven development or test automation
Tools like DOORS, EWM, Rapita Suite, Rhapsody, LDRA
Breakpoint analysis or focused code review experience
