Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join Burchhardt Facial Plastic Surgery, a dynamic and rapidly growing new plastic surgery practice where you will play a meaningful role in building our patient experience from the ground up. As a key member of our small, collaborative team, you will work closely with Dr. Burchhardt a board-certified facial plastic surgeon and contribute directly to the development of our workflows, culture, and patient care standards. Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Completion of a medical assistant college program is preferred
  • Certification in Medical Assisting is desirable

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of work experience as a Medical Assistant preferably in a surgical or dermatology medical office or as a Surgical Technologist
  • One year of experience in clinical assisting with sterile procedures, is highly preferred
  • Proven experience with proactive customer service and service recovery
  • Understanding of managed care and health insurance is preferred

Skills:

  • Excellent general computer and typing skills
  • An understanding of sterile technique and sterile instrument handling is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, practice management software, imaging software, and relevant email and internet applications

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Daily Operations

  • Greet patient and escort them from the waiting room to exam rooms
  • Obtain pertinent medical history from the patient and record in the EHR
  • Prepare patients for examination or treatment
  • Debrief the provider about the patient prior to the provider entering the exam room
  • Chaperone and assist physicians during examinations and treatments
  • Transcribe the visit in the EHR as dictated to by the provider
  • Electronically send prescriptions and any ancillary tests when necessary
  • Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization
  • Assist the surgeon with sterile in-office procedures using sterile technique
  • Perform wound dressing changes, suture removals, prepare injections
  • Dispose of contaminated items according to OSHA guidelines
  • Handle laboratory specimens according to CLIA guidelines
  • Perform patient education as directed by a provider
  • Clean exam and treatment rooms between each patient
  • Stock exam and treatment rooms with necessary supplies, instruments, and products
  • Communicate supply needs to the manager for ordering
  • Monitor log of specimens collected and sent to reference lab and ensure results are received in a timely manner
  • Direct lab results to provider for review

Other

  • ·Support a small aesthetic medical practice by helping with answering phones, scheduling appointments, greet patients and provide new patient paperwork if needed, check out patients and schedule follow-up appointments
  • Facilitate any provider requests throughout the day and perform all other tasks and projects assigned by the surgeon or manager
  • Maintain patient confidentiality by following the practice's HIPAA Compliance Plan
  • Attend regular HIPAA, OSHA, and anti-harassment training
  • Understand the practice's Coding Compliance Plan and maintain the standards
  • Attend all staff meetings and other assigned meetings and trainings
  • Perform all other tasks and projects assigned by the surgeon or manager
  • This position requires long periods of standing, walking, stooping, bending, and twisting. Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.

Access to PHI (Protected Health Information)

This position has the authority to access all PHI. The nature of this position's access to PHI may require review of computerized schedules, computerized medical records, patient referral forms, lab results, tests, and encounter form data in order to participate in patient care.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Typical Physical Demands

Position requires prolonged standing and walking, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds, including assisting with lifting and moving patients. Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to open medical supplies packaging, operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment is also required. Employee must have normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate by telephone, in person, and in writing.

Employee will be exposed to bodily fluids on a regular basis.

Typical Working Conditions

Normal medical office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work.

Pay: $ $22.00 per hour
