Overview
LABUR is partnering with a client to strengthen the effectiveness, alignment, and transparency of its technology investments through enhanced portfolio governance and project delivery leadership. This engagement requires an IT Portfolio & Project Lead to guide a domain-specific portfolio from planning through execution, ensuring that initiatives are strategically prioritized, well-governed, and delivered with consistency and quality. By working closely with PMO leadership, IT Business Partner teams, Platform Leads, cross-functional stakeholders, and third-party partners, this consultant will help the client improve visibility into its technology roadmap, optimize investment decisions, and drive disciplined execution across critical projects. The consultant will play a key role in elevating delivery standards, improving operational maturity, and ensuring that technology initiatives drive meaningful business value.

Responsibilities
Portfolio Management & Governance:

  • Partner with IT Business Partner Leads and Expertise Area stakeholders to oversee a domain portfolio, ensuring strategic alignment, transparent status tracking, and optimal resource utilization.
  • Facilitate planning, prioritization, and portfolio review activities, aligning initiatives with enterprise strategy, architecture direction, and capacity constraints.
  • Support annual and quarterly investment planning by providing portfolio insights, prioritization recommendations, risk considerations, and funding analysis.
  • Maintain comprehensive dashboard reporting to track project health, risks, value realization, financial performance, and delivery progress across the portfolio.
  • Lead portfolio governance forums including review boards and steering committees, ensuring decisions are documented, dependencies are understood, and owners are accountable for follow-through.
  • Identify portfolio risks, overlaps, delays, and low-value efforts; recommend optimizations and adjustments to maximize impact.

Project Leadership & Delivery Excellence

  • Manage end-to-end delivery of assigned strategic or cross-functional projects, from initiation through deployment and closeout.
  • Define scope, objectives, and success criteria in partnership with sponsors, platform teams, and external partners.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans including schedules, budgets, resource strategies, risk registers, and change management approaches.
  • Ensure adherence to PMO standards and governance requirements for quality, compliance, and audit readiness.
  • Anticipate and mitigate risks and issues by driving accountability and timely resolution across internal teams and vendors.
  • Deliver projects that meet stakeholder expectations for scope, schedule, quality, and organizational outcomes.

Stakeholder & Partner Collaboration

  • Serve as a central liaison between IT, business stakeholders, and third-party vendors to ensure clear communication, alignment, and transparency.
  • Partner with Platform Leads and Business Partner Leads to develop delivery roadmaps, manage dependencies, and plan resource needs.
  • Engage implementation partners and vendors to oversee scope, delivery quality, and contractual commitments.
  • Support the design and execution of change management and communication plans to ensure adoption of new capabilities.

Continuous Improvement & PMO Contribution

  • Contribute to the enhancement of PMO processes, tools, and methodologies including portfolio reporting, resource management, and health assessments.
  • Coach and mentor project teams to apply consistent project management practices and delivery standards.
  • Conduct post-implementation reviews and lessons-learned sessions to improve delivery maturity.
  • Champion a culture of accountability, transparency, and execution excellence across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Consulting background with demonstrated strength in strategic problem-solving and complex portfolio or project environments.
  • Proven experience leading large, cross-functional projects within enterprise technology portfolios.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to influence across diverse teams.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred.

Compensation
$100 - $115 per hour - Dependent on fit and experience.
